I'm just new here. I'm glad I found this site and wishing anybody could help me. I already have my GC and will start to my work by next week. Since I still dont have a driver license, my husband will drop me off and pick me from my job. I never haven't drive even before. We went to DMV to take a written exam and unluckily I failed and this week I will try again but I feel more nervous because I dont want to failed again. Is there somebody can help me what will I do to pass DMV written exam? Is Practice test thru online can help me? By the way, I'm here in Massachusetts.

Thank you in advance and I really appreciate your help.

GOD bless.

Took my wife to the DMV and picked up a free booklet, we studied it together, she felt really bad when she missed a couple of questions and only got a 96. It's like the civics test for USC, you have to study. In our state, she could have missed 15 out of 50 questions and still pass. With the USC civics test, could have missed six out of ten.

But she had problems with the practical test, on these new cars with rack and pinion steering a 30* turn on the steering wheel is all that is required unless you are parallel parking. We have a five speed, and her hand automatically went to the shift lever on making a turn, was suppose to rev the engine to 5,000 rpm and use hand over hand steering. After flunking twice, I got her an automatic transmission compact car to drive, no reason to shift, so she finally passed.

Now if she was driving a 1937 Cadillac limo, hand over hand is justified, but our DVM is still thinking way back when. Takes about three complete turns of the wheel to make that same turn. But you don't argue with the DMV.

Almost everybody fails the test the first time. Just study the practice tests in the driver's handbook. If they let you keep you old test, see if you can find the section in the handbook that applies to the question. Don't worry. You'll make it!

An old, but true saying," practice makes perfect". I'm sure everything will be fine. Try not to worry, driving is fun!

Hey, don't feel bad for failing the test. First you should get a learner's permit so that you can practice with your hubby in the car to supervise(all you need is $ , ID, and proof of residency). Study the driving handbook as much as you can.

You should post on VJ your" City & Driver's license help". When my hubby was trying to get his license we ended up dealing with 2 different DMV locations. One was not helpful at all (didn't bother to mention that he could also use head phone to hear the question as he reads- English isn't his first language or that he could get a permit to practice even though he didn't pass the written). Also, because they only have a certain amount of time allowed for each road test, each office probably only has 2-4 different versions of the driving test. If you link up with a fellow VJer you'll probably identify a good DMV office and get a little advice about the road test. Many people have to retake the test. You'll pass, study, practice, and be persistent.

Download driver's manual from DMV website. Study it then take the exam. The manual would be the basis of your driving. Though there are some valuable lessons you would learn when you are driving (i.e. how would you react if there is an ambulance)...

Dont worry about your first exam, juts try it again.

You can get a copy of a Drivers manual @your DMV office in your area or order 'RULES OF THE ROAD' DVD.I loved the DVD and passed the test right away.Good luck!

It's better to learn the rules of the road and practice, even if it takes you longer, than to be behind the wheel and not be prepared. It's dangerous out there, even for people who have been driving all their lives, let alone for somebody that is new to driving. Be safe and take your time.

Without passing that first exam, you can't legally learn to drive behind the wheel. My wife passed it the third time she tried. but that was after staying up nights and reading the manual over and over again. During that time, we practiced driving after-hours on an uncluttered parking lot. It still took her until the third try to pass the actual driving test. Had she not, she would have been required to go to a certified driving school and come back no earlier than six months later with her certificate.

Thank you all VJ'ers for the advice and sharing the experienced of your behalf. B)

On my first time, I felt pressured because my husband wants me to pass it 100% and I wasn't really comfortable to take an exam that time. When we got to DMV, I couldn't explain what I feel, and when I sit there, and saw the time limit I was started to hear the drummer in my chest and then a guy who was sitting beside me adds to my nervous because he read loud and when he didn't know the answer he will say "sucks". And I couldn't think right. :bonk:

Last night, I told my husband that I wasn't ready yet to fail again in exam and he started to get grouchy and asking when will I be ready.

Anywho, this morning I got up early and lazy to move because I was worried to take an exam for the second time. My husband just drop me off to DMV at 8:30, they opened at 9:00 and at 9:20 my number called and the old lady didn't accept my phone bill as a proof of my residential because its different from regular telephone bill and I insist because the other lady accepted it last week and she said dont arguing with her. So, I sit for a while and look for the flow of people and looking if there was somebody who can help me. After 5 minutes, I went to another lady and explain what was happened, she talked the old lady and refer me again to her. When she finished with her customer she called me, she was angry with me, because she said that the most she hate is to passed by her, she didn't accepted my apology but the most important is she approved my documents  . I remember that ###### old lady, last week there was a guy who gave all his documents but she disapproved but the guy went to another window  and approved it.

Finally, I passed my written exam today. I got 24 correct in 10 minutes out of 25questions.

Once again thank you to all of you.
