Feinstein: Keep solar/wind energy facilities out of Mojave Desert

The Mojave Desert isn't the only option for harnessing the sun's energy. Feinstein makes a good point, however, if we can build roadways and powerlines through the desert, I don't see why we can't find solutions that would be minimal intrusion into protected wilderness.

Turtles and birds.

Does any thing any one deserve to die.

As far as what needs to happen there is truly only one thing to consider, before anything else:

CONSERVATION.

A cap to what we can use.

Listen: from 1890 to 2008 population growth 4x.....economic growth 20x....and energy use 40x!!!

When will we learn?

When it's all used up?!

Nature is being depleted, and we are the virus.

I have already asked: what will we do to prepare?

Homework assignment.

Hahaha!

The modern oil age has created huge wealth and allowed the human population to explode as it never has before or ever could have without it. And not without a huge downside to our planet Earth. When will the rubber hit the road? Even with "Green" energy, billions more people on earth have a huge negative impact on our planet just by the shear numbers.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

Don't you work in the oil field?

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

I know. I find it ironic his choice of work with such a strong belief that petroleum products have made easier the population boom. This is a very limited rationale, to be honest for one very simple and economics-based reason:

The nations that comprise the smallest chunk of humanity, and by definition, those numbers, are the ones consuming the largest fraction of that oil.

Not everyone can be a Hollywood star or a hip musician and go around spewing sanctimonious bullshit to protest stark reality.

There is a huge downside to the Oil Age. No denying that. Whether we like it or not...it is the pretty much the most practical game going right now and going into the near future. It is naive to think the Oil Age is over and there is something there already to replace it. Oil ain't going away anytime soon here in the USA. I'll be dead and buried for decades with oil still being extracted from the Earth.

In any event, it will take more than just "Green" energy to fix the myriad of ills on our little Earth. The "answer" isn't that simple.

Our focus needs to be on energy independence and the most viable long term option is renewable energy. Why is there so much 'nay-saying' - that it's too expensive, the technology is not advanced enough? When 70 percent of our oil is imported, why aren't we focused on the big picture here? If we reduced that dependence by 10 percent, that would be a big step in the right direction. Estimates are that we can reach 20 percent of our energy needs from renewable energy within the next decade.

But you have to understand that it is the fruit of the petroleum age that has benefitted all of mankind. Even the poor. Mechanized agriculture, fertilizers, worldwide transportation (land, sea, air), and a myriad of related benefits indirectly tied to the modern oil age. Oil is the stored liquid solar energy of millions of years. Unfortunately it is finite and eventually something must be found to replace it or..........

Oh I'm not disagreeing with you and your take on the effects the industry has had on modernizing and automating our species so that population can 'boom' somewhat. But you can't negate the effect that the bipolar overcomsumption of this resource has had on it as well. If indeed we want to make a proportional relationship stick in terms of correlating oil use and abundance to population growth... then we should be considering reducing our usage to create a proportional decrease in birthrate as well.

Since we are in a fatalistic mood, I would suggest that Chart could drop by a huge amount when the time comes (and it will) when we have one or two Nuke engagements.

Danno, your ideas can be so idiotic at times. The most likely scenarios for large drops in populations are likely going to be starvation (which is already happening in some parts of the world) and disease.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

When transporting food, goods, and other materials is using up approximately what is it 70% (??) of the oil consumption (energy) then all the wind and solar power in the world will not help until we:

1. eat/consume local (foods, goods) – this is the big one!!

2. use electric vehicles/trains to transport people and goods/foods – secondary by far

3. become nomadic and move south when cold in the North, and North when too hot in the South – oh I love this idea, hahaha!

Saves on heating and cooling, our worst household energy users.

Again, transportation energy use makes all the other uses combined pale by comparison.

Please look this shtuff up.

No one is watching the vids I posted today??

I beg you:

please watch.

And once more:

the answer starts here:
