Green Card in hand after 11.5 months at VSC

We were so happy today to find my husband's 10-year Green Card in the mailbox!:dance::dance: It arrived very quickly after the initial approval notice, so it seems that the card production is the one part of the process that they handle speedily and efficiently. And, something I didn't notice with the 2-year card - it came with a little envelope for storing the card.

When we applied we were really worried about not having a joint property, or even a lease in both our names, and we realize now that USCIS is not so concerned about any particular type of evidence. They really look at all the evidence put together, so even if there's one thing you lack, doubling up on other types of evidence can compensate for it.

Here's our timeline for the last couple of weeks--

3/12/09: First touch on our case since June 2008

3/16/09: Received email stating card production was ordered on 3/13/09, and received Approval Letter in the mail dated 3/12/09

3/18/09: Received email stating approval notice was mailed 3/17/09

3/20/09: Received 10-year Green Card in the mail

We couldn't have done it without all the advice and information from VisaJourney! Thank you and we hope that all of you (especially all of those waiting at VSC, many even longer than us) receive good news on your applications soon.

Good luck to all, and I'm sure we'll see many of you in the Citizenship Forum in a few weeks!

If you applied precisely 90 days before the expiration of your conditional, with the one year extension, that gives them 15 months to get you your card. You are saying it took you 11.5 months, so did you have 3.5 months to go yet on your extension?

Our time line is about a year ahead of yours, so we were in this same position last year with about 3 1/2 months to go, but did receive the ten year card three weeks before the expiration of the extension, that was stressful, was all set to make an infopass appointment, a very long drive for us as they don't like to make one until you are within two weeks of your deadline.

But from all appearances with telling you to apply 90 days in advance, why can't you get your new card in that time span? Did make a copy of wife's extension for her to carry with her, but only took the original when we left the country, a very valuable piece of paper and her only way to get back in. Crazy.

I wouldn't push sending basic evidence, you may have been lucky, have friends that were called in with more evidence than you supplied.

The whole purpose of this I-751 process is to prevent fraud, and we are all guilty of it until we prove ourselves innocent, not exactly like our US Constitution I had six years of my life taken away from me to defend. And still nothing whether this program instituted in 1988 is catching the bad guys, especially after all we had to go through for the AOS stage. And if my spouse did use me to get into this country, the person that would be screwed more than anyone would be me, it cost me thousands of dollars to bring her here, hell, with this country depending on whom you listen to, as much as 20 million illegals here already they aren't doing a damned thing about. And all my spouse had to do was to say I looked at her cross-eyed and she could stay according to the I-751. It's all BS, and I have personally discussed with matter with my senator and my congressman, they also agreed with me the I-751 is BS. But not doing anything about it.

But I see after a year, the same old problems are still going on. USC was far better for us, 5.5 months from the time we applied until my wife became a USC, and yes, we are still living together and very happy. It was easier for me to get a top secret clearance in the military, FBI came around I learned later to check me out with my school, employers, neighbors, and relatives, didn't have to do anything. This I-751 process was a nightmare with still the question, is it doing any good?

Wow, such a long wait. Thank God it's finally over. CONGRATULATIONS!

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.
