I tried breast milk out of curiousity once and it was pretty damn disgusting

 It depends on the source.

Mother, husband and her mother-in-law had all been drinking the extra milk but she says they still have plenty left over

eeeewwww!

You guys just don't understand Chinese customs. Just wait til Shooter sets the record straight.

This is not outside the norm in china. there is very little dairy product available, even in a city like chongqing. nothing can be wasted in china, so everything is shared. definitely lower part of the culture, though.

you think this is amazing, you should read the China Daily newspaper on thursdays. it has a "news areound china" section that should be titled "news of the weird".

try this one for news in china straight from the horses mouth:

People are strange everywhere!

A Chinese new mother is producing so much breast milk that she baths her baby in the excess each day.

1486091.jpg

Mrs Luo, of Chongqing, says she is producing two litres of milk more than she needs to feed her six-week-old daughter Shan Shan.

Mother, husband and her mother-in-law had all been drinking the extra milk but she says they still have plenty left over.

Luo's mother-in-law said they were all beginning to feel like they were drinking too much milk: "Then I suggested why not give the baby a breast milk bath, and they took my advice," she said.

Luo said the milk bath makes her Shan Shan's skin really smooth and white, reports the Chingqing Times.

But she is looking for someone to donate her extra breast milk to as she feels that bathing her baby in breast milk is too much of an indulgence.

So, it's okay if it came from cows but not humans.

It's never ok. Cow's milk is meant for baby cows, not human consumption.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

I think I've evolved to depend on cow's milk. I couldn't survive without it.

Good point. If human milk was pasteurized and sold at stores, people would be used to it.

yeah, but....

you would have thought about giving a bath to your kid in pasteurised cow milk?

call me crazy, but not me.

thats pretty gross

maybe that's better than having a bath in some diphteria contaminated water.

People take milk baths, milk is healthy for the skin, I don't see much wrong in that milk bath the baby drinks the milk anyway so why is it gross?

About drinking breastmilk, again, like said above it's only gross and weird due to our culture, ' cus we do drink cow's and goat's milk. So to me it's weird but not " OMG so gross!".

On that note, instead of bathing the baby in milk she should be pumping and donating it as a lot of moms lack milk and it's that much heathier than formula or goat or cow's milk.

Adults can safely drink breast milk. Some adult cancer patients are actually prescribed breast milk (they usually get it from human milk banks).

I don't really see why this is gross. Didn't Cleopatra take baths in goats milk or something? And I agree that an adult drinking cow's milk really should seem more weird than an adult drinking human milk.

I do wonder how she knows how much excess she is producing though. Maybe she is pumping? Women often produce excess milk in the beginning and then their supply stabilizes around 3 months, but if you express a lot of 'extra' milk you are telling your body to produce more than the baby needs and your oversupply will continue.

And of course the article says it makes the baby's skin white. What is it with this 'white' obsession in Asia?!
