The officers probably deserve a warning for assaulting someone already in arrest, although we all know it's not an uncommon scene to have cops beating up inmates, etc.

But I find it appalling that this girl, who DID get caught in a vehicle reported stolen, and DID seem to be acting up on purpose suddenly becomes a victim for being knocked around a little bit (she got hit twice and grabbed by the hair, and some shoveling, but she wasn't beaten to a pulp) and gets to be on national TV acting like she's a poor innocent girl.

Cop is wrong, media is wrong for giving this sort of attention to the girl.

she got kicked and then thrown up against the wall... then grabbed by her hair and thrown to the floor where they pinned her down and proceeded to hit her twice... a lot excessive if you ask me...

maybe the girl was being a little lippy but she didn't deserve that...

Oh, I didn't say she deserved to be beaten up at all, or that the cop shouldn't be punished, but the girl shouldn't have gotten media attention making her come across as a saint or a victim who was totally innocent.

No ammount of lippiness deserves physical abuse although some people do deserve it (not saying it's her case).

I was raised very differently from many of this girl's generation. You do not take things that don't belong to you without permission, period. You do not mouth off at the police, period. You do not throw things at them or otherwise get aggressive with them, period. They are to be addressed respectfully as "officer", "sir", or "ma'am."

Having said that, what this officer did was way out of line, and he should be disciplined at the very least. His life was clearly not in danger, and there was no reason to body slam the girl and punch her. All he had to do was close the cell door and walk away. If she actually did assault him, he could have brought charges against her for that, the violent repsonse was unnecessary. The police are supposed to protect society, but actions such as this bring disrespect to all officers, even though most aren't like this, and makes the legitimate work of the police much more difficult.

The girl did admit that she was being mouthy, obviously it's enough information for so many of this forum to judge the girl a "brat" and "deserving of a beating". I don't think the media has any fault in reporting this story, I bet the media invited the uniformed gorilla to appear but he must have *thoughtfully* declined.

Idiot needs to lose his hob for being stupid enough to do it where cameras can record his beating the deserving brat.

 are you for real?

Ignoring the moral and legal implications for a moment, I'd have to agree that this officer was really dumb for doing that while cameras were present. He shouldn't have done it at all, but if he was going to beat her, it makes no sense to record it (or have it recorded). This is just as moronic as kids who beat one another, film it and upload the video to YouTube.

If this video hadn't surfaced, the officer could make a claim in favor of his case, but with the evidence in hand, he has absolutely no credibility.

I wish the media didn't concentrate so hard on the police officers who commit overly violent acts or otherwise hurt others in some way. While it's true some officers do this (as the one in this story did), there are many, many cops who help protect and assist others when necessary. The media fails to look at those officers, of course. That's not news. Who wants to hear about a police officer saving a family when you could report on an officer beating one instead?

It wasn't right for the cop to do what he did, he did take it too far, but maybe now the girl has learned that if you piss off the wrong person and there will be consequences. It just drives me nuts how teenagers nowadays seem to think they can away with anything.

"Piss off the wrong person"? Is that really the kind of society you want to live in? One where "pissing off" someone gets the ####### kicked out of you? The law and the officers of the law are supposed to prevent this from happening. This "officer" is a complete disgrace, and jailtime is only right. Had anyone else done this, they'd have gotten the same.

But hey, your attitude kinda pisses me off, so I guess you're next, right?

GIRL being operative word. A child can be unruly and it doesn't mean a parent is doing their best by trying to pin them with grand theft auto and having a cival servant beat the nonsense out of her. Thank goodness I wasn't your daughter...... and I even turned into a responsible citizen.

How to teach a hormonally inbalanced 15 yo girl to be respectful? I'm quite sure it isn't having a 250 pound gorilla in a cop uniform toss her around like a ragdoll and beat her about the head and neck.

Also, it's not stealing, it's technically unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and even that would likely not hold up in court if they had the keys and weren't gone for more than a few hours.

I will never accept this kind of logic from my children.

good for you. Your children will likely be some of the few these days raised well.:thumbs:

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

The father in the video did not seem too concerned by his daughters behaviour. He sees the possible payday awaiting when he sues the city.

Its infuriating to think people have kids but do not accept the responsibilities for raising them properly. I have to qualify this and say I have no kids yet and can only make assumptions about how hard it is to raise children. However I would take full responsibility in how they turn out.

Disclaimer: I am judgng this family based on very little evidence and really it is more of a societal concern rather than just aimed at this family.

not defending the girl or anything but ive taken my shoes off and gave them a little kick and sometimes they go higher and farther then expected. both parties in my opinion are at fault. the girl needs to know when to shut up but the cop has to also learn self control. he was too rough.
