I believe that the officer did use excessive force, he should of been the bigger person but his temper got the best of him. He is twice her size and it was uncalled for and he is a adult but what pisses me off the most is not the beating she took(which doesnt make me feel bad for her at all), but the stage she is given now, now its all about this officer and not her stealing a car, mouthing off to a officer and being a spoiled little brat. She comments about how she borrowed it with out permission?, huh what how stupid. You stole it. This officers career is over and she is on a national stage getting sympathy.

Seems to me in the video that you can tell that the girl had an attitude with the officer, crossing her arms, kicking her shoes, its rude, shes in the wrong, shes pissed off she got caught, and she wants to push buttons, she pushed the wrong 1 cause she got her #### beat. I dont think it was ok, i think the officer did use excessive force, but maybe she will think twice for being lippy next time. As for him losing his job, i dont think he should, i think he should get counsiling, to maybe evalutate if there is too much stress for him, (seems there might be considering he beat up a lippy teen) but i think the evaluation should be done by a psychiatrist (sp?), and they should go from there.

She and the other girl in the car took the other girl's mother's car. They are 15, so I'm sure the other girl probably lives with her mother, which means she will return the car, which means she borrowed it, not stole it. Bad? Yes. The end of the world? No.

She kicks her shoe out the door at the cop and he retaliates like this? Guess he never had a teenaged daughter, eh? #######? If he can't handle a little tantrum like this from a teenager without going off like this, there is no way he belongs in uniform. Get him out.

Sigh.... It was reported stolen, they didnt ask. Probably out joyriding. You got to be a kid yourself if you accept this kind of logic.

What I'm saying is that this was not a hard crime. Technically you can call it stealing if you want, but the way this officer goes after the girl, you'd think she had killed someone, when in reality nobody suffered any real loss. By the way, you don't know what he said to her before she went off. Maybe she was being a little ****, but then again maybe he was being an a$$ to her first. It doesn't take much to set off 15 year girls.

You seem to think we should feel sad for this guy because he is losing his job due to a spoiled brat who doesn't appear to have really hardly done anything. You have to be kidding me. This is not Cambodia. This is a guy who has no self control. If he can't handle himself in this situation, do you want to trust him in an actual situation?

Ok I see where you are coming from, I dont condone his actions and realize that he didnt act like a adult. I dont think he should lose his job. If he has a history of losing his temper like this thats different. I cant excuse her actions as easily as you do and the fact that she took a car out with asking tells me that she is probably a unruly child and here she is on a national stage getting sympathy.

The last thing I would call this police officer is an upholder of justice. He is trying to claim she assaulted him with a kicked off shoe which didn't even fly 2 feet or arch more than 8 inches of the ground?? The guy who threw the shoes at President Bush's head didn't take such a beating. This "police officer" deserves jail time, it was most definitately assault. Put him in general population and he can learn what assault really is.....

By the way, nice mom to find her daughter and car missing and report the car stolen but not the daughter missing? Hmmm....

GIRL being operative word. A child can be unruly and it doesn't mean a parent is doing their best by trying to pin them with grand theft auto and having a cival servant beat the nonsense out of her. Thank goodness I wasn't your daughter...... and I even turned into a responsible citizen.

How to teach a hormonally inbalanced 15 yo girl to be respectful? I'm quite sure it isn't having a 250 pound gorilla in a cop uniform toss her around like a ragdoll and beat her about the head and neck.

Also, it's not stealing, it's technically unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and even that would likely not hold up in court if they had the keys and weren't gone for more than a few hours.

If that video is all there is then there is no evidence that she did anything that deserved a beating like that. Yes she was probably being rude and showing zero respect and deserved to be put in her place but not like that. As for the police officer, he needs to be fired and sent to jail. I do not want cops like that on the streets, police officers need to be calm and collected. They need to use their heads not their emotions. Dumb cops like that bring down the reputation of all cops, most of which would never act like that.

It wasn't right for the cop to do what he did, he did take it too far, but maybe now the girl has learned that if you piss off the wrong person and there will be consequences. It just drives me nuts how teenagers nowadays seem to think they can away with anything.

We give our police a great deal of trust and allow them to use their own discretion as to how to deal with certain situations. After all, they put their lives and the lives of their family in harms way every time they put on that uniform and patrol our streets to ensure our safety. However, what this policeman did is cowardly and goes far beyond a reasonable response to an unruly and "lippy" child. She should have been restrained, handcuffed or whatever protocol demands. The girl's behavior should have been recorded and given to the judge to let him decide what is the appropriate punishment for this infraction. Yes, she broke the law. Yes, she should be punished. But beating a young girl in the head when she's half your size and obviously was subdued since she had two policemen on top of her, is beyond "excessive." Unless the shoe had a blade sticking out of it like some sort of James Bond weapon or something then this is not a proper way of responding in this situation. This man, and I use that term loosely in this case, is a coward and unfit to wear that uniform.
