I know this may sound really stupid. I am planning to visit my boyfriend in the US while our K1 visa is processing. I know that I have to show strong ties to my country but I was wondering how the officer can check if you really book a flight to go back. It is very simple to print an itinerary from a website so do the officer can check on the airlines system to see if you really paid for that flight?

I would like to stay there for the 90 days allowed by the VWP but I am scared that such a long visit won't be good for me for the POE. I am not planning to lie or anything like that I just need to know how many info they really have!! Thanks

Yes, having a RT ticket helps show intent to not overstay your visit.

They check your visa not your return ticket.

A round trip ticket is required to get a Brasilian visa, but the POE checks for a visa not the ticket.

U.S. POE checks visa not the ticket, not in their job clsification, if you over stay that is someone elses job clasification to check.

With the Visa Waiver Program you need a return ticket to be eligeble. If I go there and buy the ticket before the expiration of the 90 days alloweded do I risk if they check the database seeing I didn t buy any return ticket?

You will not need a visa from Italy, of course. The officer at POE needs to be satisfied you will return. Having a 'round trip ticket, being from Italy (a visa waiver country) and having some documentation of ties to Itlay will usually be all you need. An employment letter, some check stubs, maybe a copy of a lease. I doubt you will have much trouble, but be prepared. You would hate to come all the way here and be turned back. Bummer.

Just an FYI - a person without proper documentation (i.e., a proper Visa) can not purchase/travel on a one-way ticket - the airline and/or security will not allow you to board the aircraft. This is why they look at your visa at the POE.

Side Note - if you travel from a VWP country - you'll have to show a visa if purchasing a one-way ticket. Non-VWP country travelers would have to show a visa no matter what.

You need need a return ticket at time of arrival I think. Pretty sure you can't come and then buy your return flight since at time of entry and usage of your VWP you wouldn't have a return ticket.

Don't buy a one-way ticket - even if it was possible, it's not safe. Personally, I chose not to travel to the US during the wait for the K-1 visa, both to avoid possible problems at the POE and for other reasons. If you choose to travel there, though, as other posters have told you, be ready to show substantial ties to Italy. People from VWP countries can and do get turned away at the POE - I've read quite a few stories here, and in one case the person involved (a young woman with health problems) was harassed and mistreated.

Do they really check if you purchased the ticket shown in the itinerary?

If you ask that it is because you have the idea of creating a fake intinerary and I don't understand why ? I round trip is 3 times less expensive than a one way ticket. And don't try to play that game cuz' you can find yourself in a big sh*t ! If you show a fake ticket and if they decide to check if it is true or not you will have big issues. It is like a lie and you know what it means...

I don't know whether they will, but they might.

If they find you presented an itenerary that falsely claimed you purchased a return ticket when in fact you didn't purchase a return ticket, you will have misrepresented a material fact to an immigration officer in order to attempt to gain admission to the US. That's a lifetime bar to admissibility.

Do you really want to risk a lifetime bar for that? Think about what you'll be throwing away, and how you'll feel if caught.
