I just got done reading a post from another impatient fellow. I think the problem with the USCIS phone system is the incessant calling from impatient people 1 week after filing. If I was in control of the phones and silly calls from impatient people came in everyday, well before the allotted time, I too would restrict the information the operators had. The cost would be huge and I can see the burden those calls would be. However I would make sure the internet site was very functional and allowed a lot of traffic.

I agree and disagree with this. Yes, the load on the call center means that it is impractical to have enough staff to handle the calls. HOWEVER, a lot of this demand comes from the way the USCIS is organized and processes work. There is essentially ZERO available information to those who file. This extends to any actual support needed (ZERO ability to make any real change except for an address change that may or may not work). And I would argue that the information provided in the forms, instructions and web sites is also lacking, resulting in a lot of uncertainty about what is needed to avoid denials, RFEs etc. As a result ppl call the USCIS to try to get help, but get no further information. So they try a few times in desperation.

A lot of this all really stems from a system that would have been archaic 20 years ago, let alone today. This is exacerbated by a bureaucracy run amok, rules and laws that often are arbitrary, and enforcement that is as* backwards (if you are worried about people who come here leaving on time, make sure they do, don't keep them from coming here just because they *might* overstay or work).

What a terrible waste of resources. Deporting is more expensive than correcting the problem. I swear the word is full of geniuses!!!

Yes, the USCIS is saying this young girl age 11 (who has been here since she was 2) has to leave by July 23 and it could take a year to get her back... She only speaks English and will have to go to school back in Poland.

The system is BROKEN and it appears that nobody wants to even acknowledge that it is broken, let alone try to fix it.

Maybe when I retire, I will volunteer :)

This is a clear case where the USCIS management chain is broken. There is essentially no escalation ability to get unusual/extreme circumstances addressed. This is something that there should be a means of having this handled with some kind of humanitarian judgement applied and have it fixed. This case is an extreme. As was the case of some 200 odd widows that were in the process of getting deported before a couple days ago. There is no recourse when a arbitrary decision is made on a case. Draconian, stupid, thoughtless, ...

Hey Liz

Rich- thats terrible to find out about your application having errors. Hopefully whoever handles your file at USCIS looks at them as minor and pushes them through. I would feel horrible for you if it gets held up or an RFE issued for something minor.

Dave- can you post the link to donate to your charity ride. I'll spare you the details, but lets just say I often hate my bank and banking in general.

I agree in part also. Visa Journey is a gem in that it provides priceless information about the process where otherwise no information is available. Having a question about the process is one thing. A legitimate call for information. However, you and I both know that the calls USCIS gets most of are impatient folks wondering "why am I not approved yet" prior to the 6 month mark. I think the USCIS needs Chip Foose! Overhaul!!!

AN interactive website with customer support (online live support). Updated case status that is reliable. And quite frankly, I think the forms should be able to be filled and put into a profile online at any pace you choose. WHen all is ready hit a button that alerts you are finished populating and are ready to procede. The signed docs can be sent by post, scanned and place online in the profile also. With todays technology this whole thing could be like VJ only through USCIS.

And, congrats, Liz...great news!! What a relief!

The documents were already sent to the Embassy in Ukraine. I actually hope that they already received them. The average (on VJ) for Ukraine from NOA2 to interview is about 29 in the last 3 to 4 months. So I am hoping that by the end of June, I will know the date of the interview.
