I just received my fiance's signed original documents for the I-129F in the mail (325A and letter of intent). I'm freaking out a bit. First, the signature he used basically looked like he just printed his name. He says that's how he signs his name when he's in the U.S. (when he had an F1 visa, etc), but I know it's not how he signs his name in Guatemala. My co-worker saw it and said, "They might not accept that as a valid signature." But, then another said that as long as it's consistent it should be okay. So, I'm wondering about this.

Second, on one of the copies of the 325a he signed as "Arturo Clark U." with the last initial of his second last name (which he does sometimes). All the others he signed, "Arturo Clark." Why would he sign 3 the same way and one differently? I have no idea. in any case, I'm wondering if this is going to be a problem? He sent me the documents UPS at a pretty penny and now is away traveling in remote villages for a few weeks, so it wouldn't be so easy to resend. Is it better to wait and get the 4th consistent signature and pay $50+ in shipping fees again? Or am I just being paranoid b/c I'm anxious about filing this application? Please advise!

I wouldn't worry about the way his signature looks. I worked for an optometrist who's signature looked like she just printed it. And also one of my good friends has the same kind of signature.

Your signature can look any way you like as long as it's what you use all the time.

As far as one of the signatures being different, not sure what you should do about that. I would probably be tempted to just cross out the U with a pen, like it was done by mistake.

But, not sure on that one.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm wondering if just whiting out the last initial that's different from the rest of the forms would be the best option.

I personally wouldn't white out anything near the signature place. Just like on personal checks they don't want you to scribble or white anything out - just mark a line through it and initial it. Frankly, I would just leave it. If the general signature looks the same and the only difference is the U., I would leave it. Just my opinion. Hopefully if the adjucator has brains he'll be able to figure that one out.

No one can say how a signature should be, my wifes looks like some sort of single letter/scribble. But his signature should be the same as on his passport. It could be a cause for an RFE if there are multiple signatures. Tell him to stop being creative unless he wants to delay the whole process. Now is NOT the time to be playing games or deciding to change his forms of signature. Tell him to grow up and get with the program.

You know I was thinking something I sign my name with my middle initial and sometimes I don't. Or I've typed letters, written my name at the bottom without a middle initial and then signed it with it. I would imagine it wouldn't be too far off from that.

and as you said "he does this sometimes" so I'm sure it's not a matter of your SO needing to grow up - while it is important that things be consistent, don't take what some people on here say as personal

That is the rudest...most ignorant advise i have ever seen. a persons siggie is their siggie...you cant change that.

You remind me of an old boss i had who continued to tell me i had to change my siggie bc he couldnt read it. One day he told me i couldnt leave his office until i did so, i thru a chair at him.

Ironically, he was trying to avoid inconsistency. He said his super-duper scribbly signature has changed over the years, and he believes that it doesn't always look the same. The way he signs it nowaways doesn't look exactly like what's on his passport from several years ago. So, he just wanted to sign in a way that he could consistently replicate over and over and it would look more uniform.

In fact, we had the following email back and forth:

Him: I am signing stuff with just my plain old name, not doing my elaborate signature

cause I want everything to look the same.

Me: what do you mean? why would it not look the same? i think you should use your signature, however you sign your name. it doesn't have to be elaborate, but however you sign your name usually.

Him: It looks the same if I just write my name on everything which is a signature, thats what I used to do in the states.

Honestly, it doesn't make any sense to me, either...why have several signatures? But, he actually thought he was doing the better thing.

As far as writing the U, it was just an accident (sometimes he has to include the U. b/c his dad is Arturo Clark A.). He generally goes by first name and dad's last name only except in those cases where he has to distinguish. I don't know. I don't want any delays, but I'm just hoping it will be fine and know that he can reproduce the signature if required.
