This forum is amazing. Thanks for all of your help. I filed my 2008 taxes today with my tax guy and am now curious as to when I can ask the IRS for my 2008 tax transcripts?

I was hoping it would only take a couple of days before I could request the 2008 tax transcripts. My tax guy told me he was filing my return and would mail me my return next week. I would prefer to send the 2008 tax transcripts though.

Transcripts probably won't be available until June but you can use a complete copy including all schedules and supporting documentation like W2 and 1099 forms, etc.

After doing the taxes with the tax guy, I came home with my w2's, 1099's, etc. I don't have the tax return. He told me he would mail my return to me sometime next week. My forms talk about my mortgage on my only property (which is out of state ) that has depreciated greatly in value, and I took a $15,000 loss this year even though I rented it to someone. Are you telling me I should submit my mortgage interest on all 1098 forms as well, even though I'm not listing it in the assets on the I-134? I am so frustrated right now, I don't know what to do? I still managed a gross adjusted income of $35,000. What do you recommend I do? We just got our NOA2 a couple of days ago.

Your tax return with your W-2 and 1099 should be fine. From what I've read, transcripts are not required, but are accepted of course. Wait until you get your tax return next week and use that with all supporting documentation used to file the return.

Do they even check these things?

Original is technically on file with the IRS (eventhough maybe in electronic form), and all you have is a "copy"... A regular photocopy of what you have is good

YMMV

By sending my tax return do you mean reciepts, etc that I used when doing deductions such as union dues, hospital bills, 1098 forms, 1099 forms, etc? I showed the tax guy these as we were doing the taxes. Please help! Thank you, MikeandJoana
