I booked with Virgin through opedo last night (yes i say the off topic letter of complaint post. :lol:lol) and they never asked that sort of info, but then it was a return  am i suposed to inform them in advance of the ticket desk that I am on a K1?

Nope, just rock up as normal, and forget about using the return portion of the ticket. If you're feeling particularly generous, you might want to inform the airline (after you get there) so that they can sell that seat on again - I'm sure they'd be happy to do so

Congratulations! Another option is, when you check in, to request an upgrade to your seat status in exchange for the return ticket. Virgin offered us a free upgrade on one seat if we gave up both economy seats last year because they needed the seating. Since you're a single traveller (I'm assuming) you'll probably stand a good chance. :)

thanks i read that thread this morning haha so funny, Aactually the last time i took virgin airways the good was much better than ba food, and the pud gum chocolate, very expensive stuff in sainsburys. but the seats wernt as comfy as ba cos you cant pull the sides down for your head i may get one of those trsvel pillow things.

if i wanted to swap it for an uprage when would i do that? would i wait for the checkin desk? or what?

Yes, get one of those pillows! I bought one right after I flew Virgin.

As for the upgrade..... not sure where you're flying out of. In the US you ask the person who checks you in if there are any upgrades available. In Manchester you go to the ticket counter opposite the check-in lanes. Just tell them you have a return ticket you won't be using and ask if there are any upgrades available for this flight. Good luck! Hope you get the upgrade!

I'm a Virgin flyer. They are good at upgrading, just ask at check-in. They may send you over to the sales desk.

Hannah. Just to let you know - they charge £90 per extra bag outside of the allowance, if you did decide to take extras. They will let you take one carry on and your violin no problem.

One thing if you're turning up at the airport with a round-trip ticket is make sure you end up with the right type of I-94 - you want a white one to go with that lovely shiny visa not green I-94W visa-waiver one. Given that the I-94s are normally given out in the check-in area by contract security who are paid to not think ;) you might just want to make sure you've got the right type before you leave check-in :) in case they see your return date and automatically assume you're a VWP traveller.

Good point. Last time I went to the US the security that patrol the check in queue doing pre-checks must have been asleep as they didn't give me an I-94W after checking my passport. I asked and she was like 'Oh I thought you were American'. I was quite worried as my passport is rather red and I'm sure I didn't sound American when I answered all her questions about electrical items and where I was going.

I've only ever been given an I94-W once at check in, all the other times I've just got them from the stewards on the plane.

That'll be fine then, assuming the security bod had their coffee that morning, it should be obvious you need a visa I-94 ;)

Only other advice I can give is don't worry! Even though you wake up each morning now thinking "Bloody hell, I've only got N days left before I leave - how on earth am I going to get everything done?!", somehow, eventually, it all does come together and a sense of zen-like calm descends ;) My last few days in Britain are but a blur to me now. I have no idea how I did it, but somehow, you do manage to organise yourself out of the country

Oh yeah, and for heaven's sake bring tea bags!!
