MY lawyer charged me $2000.00 for just filing I-129 f.

is it reasonable?

does it cost extra for further procedure? ( after marriage?)

thanks alot

We paid $1,800.00 in lawyers fees not including filing fees about $500.00 ???? but honestly it was a rip off!!! They didnt even call before or after the interview. They didnt even give us details we needed to know before the interview like what to present as proof of relationship, I got it all on VJ..... However, we had peace of mind knowing that everything was well taken care of before the interview.

If you read posts from here very well, I think you can file without an attorney and do it successfully. Also you can consider a cheaper attorney..... think about it.

Good luck on the process.

Thats alot for 30-60 minutes job that you can do yourself.... then lawyers are always overcharged to pay for their luxury. Not all lawyers are the same of course, when you talked to lawyer, did you tell them to stick with you until the visa is in your hand or just to file the documents? Some lawyers adding additonla fee for different services? Wow, 2,000 give me alot less than that and I file it for you...LOL. Goodluck! I hope you pay him to go to the proces with you and able to ask question without adding additonal fee...

All lawyers charges different fee... so I hope that help a little...

DID U ALREADY PAID the Thief yet?

You dont need a Lawyer for that one. it's not complicated one.

He cant expediate anything faster than what a normal person do.

You'll be the one who has to gather all the imfo he asks/request .

You would save ur money for other things.

It;s a step by step case, so u cant do no wrong.

Save ur money, VJers are better than the lawyers.

My case was delayed a minimum of 3 months thanks to hiring a lawyer. Not counting the over 10 mistakes that they would've made. Thank god for this site. I was able to catch them all. My favorite was telling me to make out the money order for NVC to USCIS.

To add to that, a lawyer will delay your case no matter what. This is because you have to send all the documents to them, rather them sending them directly to USCIS. So that in itself is a delay that can not be avoided. Also, if you are going the IR-1/CR-1 route, it is difficult to pay any of the NVC fees online when using a lawyer.

Did not use a lawyer so the cost was $0.

All a lawyer does is fill out the forms and submits them.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

I would have done it for $100

But seriously I do think it is a total rip off, my pet hate in life is filling in forms and doing paper word but we are doing it on our own, thanks to VJ as long as you read the guides it is not such a daunting task and it is free

The only way I would engage the help of a lawyer is if I did not have a straight forward case.

I would definately say to you do the AOS process with the help of VJ, getting the visa is expensive enough without paying their fees as well, and dont forget the non US citizen will not be able to work for a few months when they get to America

Lawyers , Lawyers, lawyers...Don't get me started on the LAWYER thing. All I can tell you is that IF there were a laywer that was sincere and could honestly say he was WORTH his fees, he would have been here ON THE SITE, already defending his actions on VJ's site.

If just ONE DECENT attorney would just charge a REASONABLE fee of $500-1000, and do a nice job and explain every step, etc, and dp follups, he would get all sorts of referrals from this site alone, enough to stay in business from VJ by itself.

Yes, I did it all myself and with the help of VJ and many personal friends who already were helped by VJ. The application and process went smoothly, NO RFE's, not even a touch showing and 135 days until approval, but there are tons of people who are not this organized to read and compile all this junk, or don't want to, & need someones help. They also need translation help in compiling info, etc.

I am SERIOUSLY thinking of starting this SERVICE business and let my fiance run it when she comes in February. I already have my personal attorney who said he would standby if needed, but you do not NEED an attorney to do anything. Maybe this is my new calling???

It makes me sick to see people paying thousands of dollars and get this poor treatment!!!!

Good luck in your journey....J

That's about the common rate, but of course that's :

1) An incredible amount of money for the little bit they actually DO, even if they are a lawyer

2) Unnecessary for almost all cases, as others have pointed out (and some lawyers have even done a LOT of harm)

I like many others used VJ was my guide and did it myself.

Between research, preparation, and working on everything with my fiance I spent about 40 ~ 60 hours on mine. (Yes I went overboard:) The money was an issue for me because preparing the I-129 is just step 2 or 3 in a 2 year process with all kind of expences along the way. I just concidered the work as my new part time job :) I also think it makes a statement to your fiance and others about the commitment to your new life. Last but not least there is no way anyone else would have put in the time and attention to detail as I was willing to do.

My I-129f cover letter included a 10 section table of contents with the Proof of Relationship area broken down into 8 subsections. I arranged the baggies holding the checks and photos to open out to the examiner when the page was lifted...

Yes, I went overboard. No I am not on medication.

Unreasonable! I'm getting a lawyer only if there are problems. Sorry you got ripped off! :(

You can "try" to get your final bill lower.

You should of done your due diligence on the matter.

In my opinion that's a little high for that service, but no one forced you to use a lawyer.

Live and learn.........
