Hi!

I am sending in my first I-129F and supporting forms packet on Monday, and I was wondering if there is a specific way it should be prepared? It is in proper order with a table of contents and everything, I am just wondering what you guys did about hole-punching, if you used a folder, binder, etc? What is the best way?

Thanks!

Sheet protectors ftw : D

If you use sheet protectors, the first order of business at the service center will be to curse you while they waste time removing all you papers from the sheet protectors and build the file their way. USCIS has suggestions for assembling the package and so do the guides on VJ. Use them, or in short, simply stack the papers in logical order (preferrably the order they are listed in the cover letter) and use something other than staples to hold them together.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...

I used paper clips to attach the passport photos (in plastic bags) behind each G-325. Then used a binder clip to secure the whole mess. Cover letter on top, contents in the order listed on the cover letter.

Good luck.

What pushbrk and Greg001 said are correct. its best not to put in plastic sleeves and just paper clip and bind the stuff together. When USCIS gets the packet it goes to there mail room, with I found out not long ago is a secured area. The check is taken out there and stamped with a case number, the packet is then attached to a folder in the order that USCIS wants it in, The folder is layed out where on one side the case worker can review thinkings in your packet and on the other side is a check list of thing that the case worker uses to make sure the packet has everything needed and he/she signs off on them as they are completed. The folder also gets a sticker with your new case number own it and a bar code with USCIS uses to track the case, When the file is moved or worked on they are suppose to scan the barcode to show activity, that is the touchs you will read about on this site. The cases are then put in a box and put in storage until a case worker pulls the box with you case on it and starts working that box.

As far as sending the it in, ship it in a way that you will know when its delievered. I see lots using UPS or Fedex or DHL. I used Priority Mail and got a tracking numbe, I was able to go online at the post office website and knew when my packet arrived. But any of those methods are good, just priority mail is a lot cheaper. Dang I didnt mean to sound like a add for the post office, but it did work well for us. LoLz Good Luck :)

I concur on keeping your packet simple as PushBrk posted.

I talked to an x-USCIS guy and they hated to take apart these beautiful, document protected, indexed, stapled wonders,

not because it took the petitioner time to make the pack, but because of the waste of time it took them to dismantle them.

Remember, they get points on pushing the paperwork out, not stalling on one!

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS
