We had our interview yesterday. I am adjusting from F-1 student’s visa so we were expecting a tough interview and memorized the colors of each other’s toothbrushes, and favorite Shampoos. But luckily the interview was quite simple and pleasant. We were not separated or anything.

Our communication with the interviewing officer started in a funny note. She was trying to read my last name… Well, I’ve been here for a while, so I know that when someone is having significant difficulties with pronouncing a name, it is probably my name!

After the oath, she asked us to give her our IDs: my passport and husband’s driver license. She did not need my driver license. Then she asked me:

- my full name,

- address,

- DOB,

- where and what I study,

- husband’s full name and DOB,

- if we have kids,

- and several of the YES/NO questions from the list.

Then asked my husband where he is working now and in what business is the company. Asked him how he came to the United States and when and where he became a citizen.

Asked both of us when we got married. Asked me if I worked last year.

Then she asked for the proof of relationships. We had several pounds of papers, copies, photos, letters, postcards, etc. I wanted to give her one of our folders, but she said she only needed copies of our lease agreement, 2005 tax returns, current pay stubs, and joint health insurance.

She said we did not need a joint sponsor since my husband earned enough last year, and crossed the papers from our joint sponsor that were already in her file.

Finally, she asked me if I had my biometrics done. I said yes and told her the date. She said it’s ok, and she would have approved us now, but she cannot do that because my security check has not been done yet. No one knows how long it may take… She will send us a letter as soon as she gets my security check results… Yes, I am allowed to work meanwhile, she will not take my EAD from me.

Hope the do the check pretty soon!

Thank you very much!

I am sure everything would be more difficult for us, and would cost us much more if I hadn't found this forum!

The (almost) professional advice of senior members is very useful  , but also many junior members share their first-hand experience :) , so it is possible for most people to fill out the forms by themselves and prepare for the interview.

Thanks to everyone once again! (F)
