Nicholas Berg's father, "a pacifist who is running for Delaware's U.S. House seat on the Green Party ticket", had this to say on hearing the news:

"First of all, I'm not even certain that al-Zarqawi even killed my son," said Michael Berg, who doesn't believe the videotape of his son's execution or what he's been told by the FBI any more than he believes conspiracy theories suggesting his son was killed by the U.S. government.

People deal with their grief in different ways. I couldn't stomach watching the video myself, so it's perfectly understandable that his father would not want to watch his son being murdered. But he should get some help, you shouldn't engage in a fantasy just because you don't want to face reality or the truth.

I have to ask... why is beheading someone or setting off a carbomb a terrorist action, but dropping laser guided bombs from jets on them while they sleep not?

I'm pretty sure if you were "over there" right now, you wouldn't be so elated over the death of one man. Then, you'd also realize that one man's death isn't going to end all of the problems in your country. You'd also realize that there were 150,000 foreign troops occupying your "free" country.

But, since we're all from "here" all we're going to pay attention to is what they're saying on TV right now that takes the focus away from other hot-button issues. "We killed the #1 terrorist in Iraq.... but we're also going to pass legislation to make English the official language of the US, ban flag burning and gay marriage, and keep gas prices at $3/gallon..... BUT WE KILLED AL-ZARQAWI!!!! We got justice!"

We should not ignore it... but if we lose sight of what's important here, what happens overseas will be of little relevance because we will have the same issues they have right here in the good ol' US of A.

You know, you're right in a way, yeah...one man isn't going to make a whole lot of difference in the long run, and there are others waiting to take his place,etc etc..but the bottom line is, it's one more bad guy. That's the way I see it anyway. M.

I was also not for the war, but as others have said time and time again....we're there now, and now we can't just say...well, ok...we've had enough of this...we're going home now. I wish it was that easy.

btw...I'm aware no one is saying that here...just though I'd throw it in.

If he didnt do all the things he did he wouldnt have been the most wanted man. Beheading innocent people and explosion of car bombs is something he did by his own choice. He was pure evil and he deserved to be hit with a laser guided bomb. And if I was over there suffering from his actions then yes I would be elated hes gone and there is pictures showing people living there celebrating his demise. There will be others to replace him but should we have just left him alone cuz of this? No!

I wonder how much support candidates advocating the immediate withdrawl of U.S troops from Iraq are getting now. It's less than it was yesterday I'll bet.
