In Kennedy's case it's another "gift" to the rich and well connected.

I believe any person who can legally become Senator IS qualified.... if "the people" elect them,

in this case we have no election so her qualifications (err... lack of) should absolutely be considered, as with any appointment.

Of all of the well qualified liberals in NY, how is it they must choose a clearly unqualified out-of-stater?

I think if I lost most of my family in horrific tragedies I'd look like ####### too though I don't think she looks that bad for her age.

I wonder if between this and the Chicago scandal that the way vacant senate seats are filled will be revisited?

I agree that it's not fair that she would be appointed Senator without even holding one public office, though she is, looking at her resume, quite intelligent. That being said if she is appointed maybe NY will make a stink and change the process so that if a seat is empty not during an election period then a new senate election will be made?
