Hello! The stupid lady is in contempt of court and why in the hell should she be allowed to use that "it is my muslim religion" #######, that is such a lame BS reason, and she is clearly showing contempt for the court of law. Bet she learned that you do not show contempt of court in Georgia anymore and stops wearing that stupid stuff in a court of law, how ridiculous, she knew the rule of law yet she just had to try it and then spin it like she was in some civil rights era BS situation, how stupid. They should have put her in county lock up for a year! Then this stupid stuff would stop and people like her would stop disrespecting the USA court of law!

:wow:

Looks like someone got onboard the crazy train!

Well judge's have the ultimate authority in their court rooms. Generally speaking, its not a good idea to talk back to them.

Of course... its not as though they look normal in those silly robes. At least in the US we are spared the silly white wigs.

Brother 6 is correct.. i have been in court..too many times to count...and have seen judges send home witnesses and others..including a lawyer for inappropriate dress...

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

According to someone from the police department:

Lisa Valentine, also known by her Islamic name, Miedah, 40,
was arrested at the Douglasville Municipal Court for violating a court policy of no headgear
, said Chris Womack, deputy chief of operations for the Douglasville Police Department.

From the article:

Hall said Valentine, an insurance underwriter, told the bailiff that she had been in courtrooms before with a scarf on; that removing it would be a religious violation.
She became frustrated, then turned to leave and uttered an expletive, Hall said.

That’s when the bailiff handcuffed her and took her to the judge’s chambers, Hall said.

It's pretty clear that it was the expletive that led to the charge.

And yet it isn't the charge.

Why haven't the two threads on this been merged? I'm getting dizzy!

Interesting...

i didn't open this thread yesterday b/c i figured from the title that it was another woman who got in trouble for wearing her head scarf in Turkey or someplace...

i didn't realize till i saw the story in the paper this morning that it was happening in the US!

Wow...

*SIGH*

She didn't get in trouble for wearing her head scarf. She got in trouble for disrupting the court.

Brother Mox,

Why are you sighing at me in all caps... ?

i read that it was because of the expletive (disrupting the court)... i don't have any comments or disagreements with that. everyone knows it is a bad idea to curse out a judge or a police officer or a teacher, etc...

i was just surprised by the circumstances surrounding the disruption.

Because you said "i figured from the title that it was another woman who got in trouble for wearing her head scarf in Turkey or someplace..." and then "i didn't realize till i saw the story in the paper this morning that it was happening in the US!" Putting these two together, I understood you to mean "I thought it was a story about a woman getting thrown in jail for wearing a headscarf in Turkey or someplace, until I realized it was a woman being thrown in jail for wearing a headscarf in the US." If I misunderstood you, my apologies.

it's okay...

peace be with you...

This seems to be an extension of separating "church and state." In other words, someone's religious beliefs is not a qualified excuse to contest legal situations. If people want religion to have a serious say in court actions, then perhaps this should all be changed. You'd probably enrage far more Americans by suggesting that than having a select few experience problems due to religion.

Bottom Line he was wrong on isisting it be removed!! Because its a strong SYmbol that was given a strong message. Devoid of how the sister acted. Judges are held o higher societal standards. If not they need tossed of thier benches!!

judges rule on basis of determined integrity. if a judge can't see your face when questioning you, his judgement is impaired. that fact aside...

religion or not, facial coverings are not appropriate in courtrooms, especially when worn by fat women with big mouths. if a woman wants the covering of hajib, she should first respect it in her demeanor and the care she takes for herself. pick and choose is no good in islam. too many people are claiming islam only to use it for their purpose, rather than serve it. we will take them as seriously as they deserve.

"Oh, i just invented a religion that requires me to wear a ski mask. the judge needs to RESPECT me for it!'

same level of credibility.

Why do witnesses swear on a bible to tell the truth before testifying if there's such a huge separation of church and state?

She was wearing hijab, not niqab.

Perhaps it has something to do with the idea that many people are less likely to lie or twist the truth if they have to swear upon a bible (or some other religious document) versus obeying the written laws of that country. I might also be a holdover from a previous time, in which religion had a greater say in our day-to-day operations.
