Hi everybody,

A few questions about the I-134 --- thanks in advance for any advice!

1). I've asked my parents to be co-sponsors and they've agreed to do the I-134 but my mom is a little reluctant to turn in copies of their complete tax returns. They're very complicated, lots of paper, and my mom feels uncomfortable turning over all their bank routing numbers, SS numbers, etc. I'm only doing the tax transcripts for myself but when I called the IRS, I noticed that they only do those for simpler returns (1040, 1040-EZ) and not for more lengthy, complicated returns (like my parents'). So what exactly does my fiancee need from my parents to show at the interview?

2). When I go to the embassy here in Mexico to have my I-134 notorized, do I need to bring those tax transcripts, bank statements, etc., along, or is the I-134 alone sufficient?

3). If so, is it okay to do it in advance? We're currently living in Mexico City but are about to move to a smaller town in January where it will be almost impossible to find a notary. So I'd rather do it here but I don't want them to reject our info (like my bank statements) for being out of date. We just got our NOA2 last week so I don't imagine we'll get an interview until the end of January at least. Is it okay if my I-134 and that of my parents (they're coming for Xmas and it would be perfect to have them bring their own I-134, tax documents, etc. when they come) are from mid-December and he doesn't go for his interview for another 6 weeks?

4). I definitely need to show bank statements for myself because my income will not impress them. I worked for 5 months at a private school at the beginning of this year but have no proof. I worked at another school for another 3 months but have no proof of that either. Now I give private lessons so I suppose I am self-employed. So how can I get a letter from a bank officer stating all of the things required by the I-134--such as how much as been deposited over the past year, etc.--from Mexico? Will an email suffice? Should I have a letter sent to my parents before their arrival?

Thanks again and good luck to everyone.

Hi everybody,

A few questions about the I-134 --- thanks in advance for any advice!

So what exactly does my fiancee need from my parents to show at the interview? If she does not feel comfortable with all the personal info (bank routing numbers, SSN, etc) she can cross it out (thats what I did.

2). When I go to the embassy here in Mexico to have my I-134 notorized, do I need to bring those tax transcripts, bank statements, etc., along, or is the I-134 alone sufficient? Just the I-134 is needed.

3). If so, is it okay to do it in advance? We're currently living in Mexico City but are about to move to a smaller town in January where it will be almost impossible to find a notary. So I'd rather do it here but I don't want them to reject our info (like my bank statements) for being out of date. I think the notarized statements are good for a year but someone correct me if I am wrong. Not sure how it works in Mexico. You may want to call some of the notaries and find out.

4). I definitely need to show bank statements for myself because my income will not impress them. I worked for 5 months at a private school at the beginning of this year but have no proof. I worked at another school for another 3 months but have no proof of that either. Now I give private lessons so I suppose I am self-employed. Should I have a letter sent to my parents before their arrival? Call the bank and ask them. I am guessing that you will need to have this info on the bank letterhead.

Thanks again and good luck to everyone.

Your parents must have filed some form of 1040. The IRS 4506-T (Request for Transcript) covers all forms of 1040.

2). When I go to the embassy here in Mexico to have my I-134 notorized, do I need to bring those tax transcripts, bank statements, etc., along, or is the I-134 alone sufficient?

The notorization is to certify your signature on the I-134. You would not need the additional supporting evidence.

3). If so, is it okay to do it in advance? We're currently living in Mexico City but are about to move to a smaller town in January where it will be almost impossible to find a notary. 1) Should still be able to get simple transcripts, they will show the essential numbers from the returns.

2) Just the I-134. Is the US citizen in Mexico? I-134 is brought to a notary by the person filling it out, most of the time it is done in the states.

3) The I-134 tends to be good for up to a year, however the consulate can always request one that is newer.

4) IF you are using a Co-Sponsor, then don't bother with any asset information like bank statements, your income could essentially be ZERO, if using a co-sponsor.

Yes, tax transcripts for the co-sponsor will probably make them more comfortable. They can cross out information like SSN, although I'd leave the last four digits showing. Your own I-134 can be notarized at the Consulate if you're not going to be in the US to get it done. Frankly, I expect you can skip the notary anyway. Get it if it's not too much trouble though.
