Across the street from me, I have a loud bunch of neighbors. In addition to spray painting their house number on the trees...ARRRGG.....they are constantly blasting music from their vehicles at night and beeping horns at about 5AM. I have gone over several times and asked them to turn in down. They always do, but the next day, it's the same thing all over again. I approached the horn beeper this morning and he just looked at me with a smirk and in a very thick accent said he was trying to get someone up to go to work. I asked if he could just knock on the door to maybe stop waking up the entire neighborhood. He called me something I'm sure wasn't nice. Now, normally, I would just file a noise complaint (about the music...not sure if horn beeping is viable) but I'm convinced that most of them are illegal. I'm not trying to bring up a big debate. I'm primarily concerned with my own visa application and I have my own opinions. It's just that I don't want to reap any bad immigration Karma.

Any suggestions?

Don't get into whether they are illegal or not. You have no idea. What you do know is that they are disturbing the neighborhood. Complain on those grounds and let law enforcement decide if your complaint is valid or not.

I agree with AS... and someone honking the horn that early in the morning... that is just rude and disrespectful in my own opinion...

most everyone now-days has a cell phone... how's about calling them to wake them up... and like you said... knock on the door...

call and file a complaint... let the police handle it...

Pedroh,

I don't know for sure. It was just something that the older mom lady said to me one day that led me think it's a possibility. I'm not that judgemental. I just want a decent night's sleep.

There are noise laws every where in this country. The cops will come out if you call and your name won't be brought into it. In the past we've have to call the police on our neighbors down the street usually 2 or 3 times during the summer due to late night jam sessions and drunken swearing and screaming. That always take care of it and two summers it really stopped - the dispatcher told us all of our neighbors had been calling and the police told her they were going out to make it clear to them that they would not just be coming out to chat the next time. There's a line between what you have to put up with as common neighborhood noise and what's offensive and obtrusive. If they've crossed it you have every right to get the police involved and it's not snitching, you've already tried reasoning with them and they didn't want to comply.

Best of luck!

01/20/2007 Touched AGAIN (also the 18th) come on...

February: Oops, RFE for a REGISTERED marriage certificate. Oops! Overnighted it.

02/28/2007 Paul gets email letting us know his GREENCARD is on it's way! It's done...for now!

03/09/2007 Paul's greencard arrives. And breathe...

We began with mailing the I-129 in on February 27, 2006 so the whole process took us approx. one year.

Good luck out there!

I've had to call the cops before when my neighbor was lighting off fireworks for 17 hours solid. They took my name but my neighbor never figured out who had called. They were nice to my neighbors who then stopped.

That said, I'm sure this neighbor would probably know it was you, as you have complained before. But its best to get the police involved. You have tried to rectify it on your own. That has failed, despite your numerous efforts. If they will not listen to the police, then they can well likely be cited for violating the noise ordinance (I'm assuming your town has one).

If they ARE illegals, they should well be afraid of the police - which may be what it takes to make them care about stopping. As it is now, they aren't afraid of you and don't care if you're annoyed (if that makes sense).

Try talking to your other neighbours to see if they are also disturbed by them...complaints to the police en masse may have a greater effect good luck!

how do u know they are illegal?? skin color? loudliness? not being educated? just because?

(dont get me started)

because they have no respect. They come from a 2 cent nation yet don't even have the common decency to respect others.

Sorry nothing to do with skin colour, race bla bla but more to do with inteligence..

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Your honest opinion will get you nowhere on VJ.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Yikes! This is what I was trying to avoid. I lived legally in UK for a year and I know how people treated me. Not so nice in that crummy little town even though I loved the rest of the country. I asked this question because I do have some perspective on being in a strangeland and not always understanding the local customs has made me a bleeding heart.

I always think it is a good idea to verify the correct spelling of words in a post, especially when you are referring to the intelligence of another person in a negative fashion.

p.s. she did not refer to any country, they could very well have come from a very economically viable nation, be careful you don't strain something when you jump to conclusions like that :)

Illegal or no, you still have given them ample chances to change what they're doing. They are essentially laughing in your face about it.

You can either get help from the police or let them continue laughing and buy yourself some stout earplugs.

There is too much freaking noise everywhere all the time. And the police do little about any of it. Unless the offence is repeated constantly for long periods of time and a lot of people complain theres ####### you can do if they dont volintarily shut up.

As more people cluster closer together with more and more noise 24hrs a day.. people start to shoot each other. To me noise is like smoking.. its offensive and anti social behaviour. And Im a smoker!
