Welcome Casandra.

As for me, THANK GOD FOR MSN MESSENGER, WEBCAM and MICRO !!!

But even still I wracked up a ton of bills on my own land line (never any special rates for Morocco) and in phone cards as well.

For sometime my husband did not have a PC in home and again there were fees due to his

excessive use in the cafes.

There is nothing cheap about it, even talking for hours online was never enough.

It is just a major expense and tough situation all around. Someday, THANK THE LORD!, you will done with it.

Good luck.

I used pingo. You can set up phone numbers so you domt have to dial the access cose everytime. You can also set up speed dial numbers so you dont have to dial the entire number everytime. I have t-mobile for my cell phone service, I put a local access number for pingo for one of my faves and then the minutes dont even count against my cell plan. It is easy to recharge and when you have problems they are good about giving you credit back.

I understand how the calls can add up. I would buget for so much to spend every week and then we would limit ourselves to like 10 or 15 minutes a day, (whatever you can afford) then we could still hear each other everyday. Usually I would buget for more talk time on like a Saturday.

I used to chat with my friend in the Philippines using Yahoo IM. We both had microphones so all we had to do was click on the phone symbol and we were talking.

Check the rates on www.alosmart.com

That's what we used and I think they were about the cheapest rates for an online calling card that I have found. But we did the same as others, talking online as much as possible, sms, and calling cards a few times a week. If you buy one of the alosmart cards it's around 2 hours for $10 maybe more or less depending on the country and mobile vs. landline and you can divide that up - 30 minutes 4 days a week and it's a 10 a week expense. It can still get really costly and I hope that others have some suggestions for you since you are dealing with the lack of PC as an issue. Is it possible for him to go to a cyber cafe once or twice a week or to a friend's home that has a pc to talk online for an hour or two? Then you could possibly talk with webcam and it feels a little bit better than just the telephone. And like I've said before alosmart.com lets you print out a 6 month history and it can make good supporting evidence during your interview to track the cards you've bought and money that's been spent on communication.

Jordan - 4.3 cents per

Morocco - 14.7 - 17.2 cents per

Does anyone know if magicjack (or other similar VOIP device) that has a US telephone number plugged into a highspeed internet connection in a foreign country will work?

I'm not positive, but I think that is what my husbands family has. I had my doubts on it working, but it appears to be the answer. He calls a local number whenever he wants to talk to them. It saves us a fortune. His sister took it to them when she flew back for a visit about 9 months ago.

Well its not an excuse and I see where you are going. He texts me and goes to the cyber cafe and stays there until about 5 in the morning talking to me. He calls me and it is really expensive. He does call me to let me know when he will be online. We go out of our way to contact each other, it is just that I am trying to find a more costly way to do things. No I appreciate your honesty, but my husband does everything he can. However being a busy college student, I miss his calls and cannot meet with him due to night class. When I want to call him it is too late and being that there is a 6 hour time difference. Cybers close.

Ok, I am sure most of you will agree with me when I saw that I am completely frustrated in trying to find a cheaper way to contact my husband.

Cell phone international rates completely suck. I learned that the hard way. Phone cards take up too much money. I have tried resorting to Skype and Yahoo Call Out, but I still feel like money is getting deducted from my account even if the calls do not connect.

I would love to talk to my husband as much as I like. He does not have a PC at home; therefore, I call his cell phone.

Does anyone have any suggestions because I am at a complete lost and holt.

For me this is not an excuse that he does have a PC at home. I am sure he has texting capabilities to send you a message what time he can talk to you, then he can go to a Internet cafe shop. Or even sending email to you to let you when he will be online or ask you what is the good time for both of you to chat using Yahoo webcam and talk online via pc, and you dont have to spend anything. Everything is possible now a days, I dont see any reason why people can still make excuses.

For once he is the guy, he should contact you more and check how things are and how are you doing. Not you trying to find all the means to call him.. Later on, you will realize how much money you spent by just calling him.

Limit the time calling him, to make him understand how hard for you to communicate with him..

Listen to your intuition, I can see the red flag in here but I dont want to judge anything as I dont even know the whole story.

I apologize just being honest, I can see myself in you from the past.

Good idea, never really thought about that.

I have a $9.99 Virgin Mobile phone. I call Jordan for .10 a minute, no calling cards. I just direct dial. Of course I don't get hour long marathons, we use the computer for that. But just for a 'goodnight, or I love you'... .10 a min is just perfect.

Magic Jack certainly works to call the US from a computer connected to broadband in Australia. We took one back with us and made free calls back to the US, but you need a computer in the overseas country to use it. It certainly is a cheap way to make calls, but you need to check if your SO has both pc and fast connection. If you have both then there are also VOIP companies that you could use like faktortel etc. Of course with pc's and internet in both countries when we wanted contact we used all messengers, like Yahoo, MSN and one called eyeball, if one was having a bad day, we'd switch to another.

Hope one of these helps, ymmv. I have no financial interest, just a user of most of them at one time or another.

Cheers

shoplocus.com I use the dial phone card! I call a cell phone in marrakech! I get 1 hour for $10.00! Another thing we did do is he went to the cyber cafe to chat with me! Now we both have laptops! Tomorrow is black fiday you can purchase one and mail it to him I did! And it is the best thing you spend a couple of hundred dollars on laptop but you can always chat on MSN or YAHOO or SKYPE for free all he has to do is get internet service over there! I'm sure it's much cheaper than buying those phone cards! I feel your pain don't worry this will all be over soon he will be with you and it will be in the past just a memory hang in there!

Happy thanksgiving! God bless!

1800 628 7935 is the customer service number! Remember dial phone card! You can check rates online or check out local phone card dealers! Dollar stores usually have them! Good luck

I would agree with most of the posts here. My fiance is in Morocco, and it is very expensive to call. I have some calling cards that my parents gave me for my birthday, but they don't last long and the rates are pretty high ($5 for 14 minutes).

Usually, we set up to talk at least once a week on MSN Voice and spend at least a few hours talking each week. Going to a cyber once or twice a week for a few hours does not cost him a lot; plus, you shouldn't be the one always having to contact him. That seems a little one-sided.

We also use text and email, but like I said, the communication should be an equal effort.

"One love, one heart, let's get together and feel alright..."
