the spotty geek last week cooked the picture page of my passport when I got it photocopied for the police certificate. I am pretty sure I need a new one. And have been told they will destroy damaged copy and not return it for my records what do I do?

what about the stamps? I would only have photocopies of them.

I have my medical in a few hours but I have not returned packet three yet. Will I need a new police certificate or will the passport number be them same? Oh hell I'm panacking.

the laminate has had it it def won't be readable by computer. But if I done the old passport to go with previous paperwork and evidence what will happen?

ok to update, my mum told me when i got bk from my medical today that my police certificates have arrived, and the call to the passport advice line told me that my new passport will have a new number nad they will destroy my old one as its police to destroy damaged passports. :(

he did say i could try writing a letter when i go for a fast track appionment for my new passport. requesting its sent back to me but its not garenteed. :o

what do i do if they destroy it? is that gunna cause problems for me because it has all my stamps from the usa in it? and i started off using and quoting this passport number in the petition. is this gunna cause problems if i dont have the passport or original stamps anymore but have a photocopy?

wow, what bad timing, i'm sorry to hear that! i'm not entirely sure if this is the same now because this was a long time ago but my old passport got ruined and i had to get it replaced, when i got my new one they sent me the old one back with the corner cut off. are they saying they dispose of them for you now?

That's horrible timing! I think you'll get the best results from contacting the London Embassy and asking them what the best course of action is. You can find out the best way to contact them in your local forum or in the Embassy reviews at the top. Hopefully they'll be able to let you know what to do. Good luck!

thanks guys, yes i thought thats what they did but the exact words replied to me were in responce do you send the old copy back, no it is policy to destroy damaged passports, perhaps i should double check, whether they ment they chop it or really dont send it back.

I HAVE EMAILED THE EMBASSY IN LONDON JUST NOW, HOPE THEY REPLY  PUT MY LND NUMBER AS THE SUBJECT FIELD AND NOT IN EMAIL, ALSO DIDNT PUT ANYTHING ELSE IN SUBJECT FIELD IS THAT OK DO YOU THINK?

Dunno where you are in the UK, but you'll have to come up to London for your interview. I'm fairly certain without checking that you need to provide originals at interview of everything you submitted for your 129F and any RFEs you sent. If you submitted copies of your passport pages, then they would need to see the original passport.

I would do 2 things. I would firstly, call the USEM and ask them, explaining that the UKPA have confirmed that passports replaced due to damage are not returned. If they say it's that one or nothing, I'd ask if they would still consider putting the K1 into the damaged passport or if they would ask to see the damaged one at interview and then you would forward them your new one for them to put the visa in.

If the USEM says yes to putting the visa into the damaged passport, call the UKPA and ask them in cases where the damaged passport contains an unspent single entry visa to another country, do they return the damaged passport. If the USEM says no, you'd need to show them for verification and then they'd need the need passport for the K1, call the UKPA once you have your appointment date, explain the situation, ask for an expedited replacement with their same-day service. Stay one night in London, fix your UKPA appointment for the day after your interview, get the new passport and drop it bck to the USEM (if that's allowed) before heading home.

All depends what each say. Alternatively, if the UKPA says no because you're not urgent because you're not travelling AND the USEM agrees to put the visa in your old passport, book your flights for whenever after your interview and then tell the UKPA that you're now travelling within x weeks.

Don't panic, there's a way to work around it!

i spoke with ukpa twice already, and they have assured me i can do fast track because i nned it quickly but it will cost me £97 and yes its in london near victoria station i think or not far anyways. after speeking twice i checked the site for myself and there is a statement on there saying they return the damaged passport to you so i will call again and see what i get quoted. either way i cant wait till i have to fly as my noa2 will run out before then.

i will see what the embassy say in their reply if i get one, about the worst case senario. ideally i would have both old and new and they would accept my police certificates if i have the passport, but i will see if they say that. otherwise its gunna be an extra £140 and whole lot of headache. ugg

Dammit. It would have been easier if you had "lost" it.

What about enclosing a letter to them when you return your passport explaining your dilemma. To add...when I got my new passport they sent the old one back with the corner cut off.

my third phonecall to them, got me this info, couldnt confirm what action they would take as she couldnt see the passport, but if they deem it normal wear and tear they will give it back with new passport, but if its too excessive then it would be destroyed. if i explain the situation at the appointment, and show evidence that i need to show it at the interview the interviewer may take it upstairs to the boss or whoever and show them and ask if there is anyway around it not being destroyed.

still no word from the embassy on the matter.

It is pretty much assured that the US Consulate will NOT place a visa in a passport that is "damaged" or "mutilated"... Based on the OP's description it sounds like it would fit into one of those categories...

i assumed that would be the case, which is why i'm trying to get a new one asap before i have an interview. but if i can't retain my old passport aswell as the new one as proof, is the question i pose. will i have problems with just photocopies of the pld [assport and stamp pages and will i need a new police certificate?

i quoted the number of it in our petition, as i was in the usa when we did the papers, also i sent a photocopy of my stamps into the usa, and biography page (the damaged bit) as proof we had met. it clearly states in packet three to provide all orignal copies of evidence submitted in petiton at the interview, plus i found this damage after getting my police certificates which cost £40 which have my passport number on them. these are the reasons i think i need the old copy. i posted because if i cant have the old copy back, wanted to know if anyone knew if i would have problems because of those reason i have just stated.

I thought London would be an easier consulate than ours... We provided no originals of any evidence in the original petition... There is a directive out that tells the consulates that the original petition is not to be re-adjudicated... unless new information is now available that would make the original petition unapprovable...
