Hi Everybody,

I just came across this forum and read most of the interview stories, I thought its about time I tell my experience. I came to the US back in April of this year for business training on a B-1 Visa. My wife works for the same company here in the US. We knew each other for almost one year through e-mails and phone conversations and developed a very good friendship over a period of time, but we only met in person after I came to the US.

I met her two days after coming here..nothing was planned..I never thought about marrying her and neither did she. All we had in mind was she would take me out to see places in NY on weekends. But little did we knew life was going to take a turn from there. We kept seeing each other for a week and started dating and I realized we both had much in common..So I proposed to her after a month and a half and she accepted immediately. The next thing we did was to hire a lawyer. I wanted to go back and re-enter on fiance visa but the lawyer said it was ok to file it now as my intentions were not to marry at the time of the entry. We got married after 68 days and filed for AOS through the same lawyer.

We both come from completely different backgrounds, I am an Indian and my wife (the USC) is from china and as predicted our families were totally against it. So we just had a civil Marriage. No wedding no fancy stuff. The lawyer asked us to get as much proof as we can because they will automatically suspect fraud whenever the filing is done withing two years. And that pretty much scared us a lot. Anyways there were a few crucial things that we did not have and could not do much but to tell the truth at the time of the interview. First, We did not have any lease because we pay cash and it includes all the utilities as well. Second, My wife did not update her marital status at work because I used to work for the same company and she did not want anyone at work to know that she's married to me, and finally she did not include me to her health insurance plan for the same reason. However she did buy me a life insurance and added me to her credit cards, Telephone Bills and a joint account.

The day of interview arrived and oh boy..I cannot describe how nervous I was. I mean the whole story needed some good convincing. I came here for business and married after 60 days of dating, we both are from totally different backgrounds and with no marriage pictures. Luckily we just had one picture with my wife's parents. All the other photographs were just two of us together. Well one thing we both knew was, no matter how odd the whole situation looks there's nothing they can do if our marriage is in good faith.

We hardly waited for 45 minutes before being called in by a lady who looked like she was in her mid forties. Very professional with a constant serious expression on her face. The lawyer accompanied us as well. She asked us both to take an oath. and then our lawyer handed over all the joint documents we had. She asked me my name, my wife's date of birth and her parents name and the same question to my wife. Then she asked for the marriage photographs, I told her we do not have any marriage photographs and handed over the album to her. She went through the photos and asked me how I met her. I told her I came here for the training and met her and handed over all my training related documents. She asked my wife, who proposed and for how long did we date. Well at this point the officer appeared to be a little confused. That's when the lawyer pitched in and stated "I know they are a young couple and it is a case of interracial and interfaith marriage" to which the officer replied "I do not have any problem with that, the only thing I am trying to understand is how can they marry after seeing each other for just two months". Well, then I had to explain to her that I knew my wife for more than a year through company's e-mails and phone calls as my company is a counterpart of the same organization. And then I handed over the phone bills indicating the number of times that I called her after arriving to the US. She asked me if I had any phone bills from before arriving to the US..I explained she used to call me by using a phone card and we don't have any record of it. And then she asked my wife why wasn't I listed on her health insurance. My explained that I had to leave my job due to this marriage and we do not want anyone to know about it yet. After all this it came down to one final question which I never in my wildest imagination thought it could be asked. She asked me,"Sir without looking at your wife, tell me if she is wearing any ear-rings and what kind of necklace is she wearing right now?. Now come on!!! who would imagine that..I can at least think about necklace but ear-rings? I mean I can hardly see her ears..they are always covered with hair :). I answered, I don't know what type of ear-rings they are but I know she always has ear-rings on top of her ear (my wife recently had the top of her ears pierced and due to which she always had to wear those rings). And as for the necklace I did not notice what she was wearing but I knew she had two which she liked the most. One of them was with the green pendant, so I explained it could be either of them. Then the consular asked my wife to lift her hair and show her the ear-rings and she was also wearing the green pendant..Phew!!

That's it, no more questions asked..she said I would get a conditional card and before two years I will have to prove it that my marriage is bonafide in order to remove the condition. We waited for an hour and got my passport stamped. The whole process was just too quick. I got my EAD around September first week, SS number on 24th of September, The AOS interview was on the 16th of october and the greencard was ordered on October 29th.

Well anyways thats my huge story. I wish all the very best to others.
