DOS answers

guys i have a question.. maybe someone can help meout

i called dos today and lady (anna) told me last update was in sept...

i did not ask anything else...and just said thanks and hung up

so what exactly could an update be?

especially in my circumstance, any idea?

could this update mean when DOS sent file for name check clearance?

or heard back that day? and are wating something additional/?

i dont knowww...

get so frustrated sometimes

Call back, you'll get a new operator, ask them what the update is. . .each operator is different some will tell you, some will not. . .if you don't get a good one this time try again in a few days. . . .

Update can mean anything from completed to they just noted on the file that you are still in AP. . .I got that one once.

Hyd617 I actually told the lady about the names andshe said maybe they had pulled up the wrong account but you know they verify the name DOB etc anyway she swore there was nothing to do with his parents names I think maybe they feel if they give us a shread of hope we will feel better at this point I am fighting off the urge to call because until they say the case is completed I think each person just says whatever. The lady said it shouldnt be much longer so I asked her why she said that she said well look you have been on AP since 7/15 thats a long time and I just said yes it is while I was thinking not really compared to others so I will try to fight the urge of hearing those words its PENDING and try not to call

thanks for ur post.... so they were wrong about parents names..oh well.. atleast u got that cleared... its funyy how she said to you you shouldnt be much longer.. bc chris from dos told me that looks like i am in last 30 days of ap.. he said that to me abt 2 weeks ago.. i should have asked how do u know.. but i dint...

lets see i hope we hear something soon.. i know others have waited longer in this mess also..lets see what happens..

I just called the DOS. Our interview was six months ago today. Of course I played dumb and the woman was actually very pleasant to me. She told me everything she could see in our file, which of course had nothing to do with anything going on with our AP. She said "ok it looks like you had your interview in April, they have your contact numbers, I see Senator inquiries, then she got all excited and said OH it looks like he's good to go!" I said WHAT? WHAT WHAT WHAT? She said "After his AP is finished he's good to go, that's great news!" Oh, well, yeah I knew that already but I suppose it's nice to have that confirmation. I said is there any way to see what's been going on with the AP? She said "Unfortunately, no. We used to have a lot more leeway but they came in and changed our system so now the only thing we can see is that the case is in AP." I have been given that same response by several DOS employees.

AP can be for several different things. It could be for document verification, it could be to investigate the relationship and do home visits, or it could, as in my fiance's case, be for security clearance. Maybe if the AP is not security clearance they could tell you things like "it's in the last 30 days" but I believe nobody can give you any information if it is security clearance. My advice to those on AP would be to get with your Senator and find out the exact reason for the AP. Each Senator has a DOS liason that can give a little more information than the DOS employees at the 202 number.

I also asked her if such a long delay is common. She said "I don't want to scare you and I hope your case will not go this long, but I've seen them go as long as a year. Six months is really not uncommon." Well, we already knew that too, right? Tammy, chaingang, and others have been waiting longer than a year.

I'm so crabby with our gov't right now...

I was told my one lady at DOS that all the updates come from the Embassy like when the senator inquired at the embassy it showed a update in my file at DOS she told me if you want first hand information call the Embassy itself and I think she is right but like i said earlier I am not calling anymore if I can contain myself

I was in fact referring to the comment you received from DOS a few weeks ago. I was very surprised when I read that because from my experience I just don't see how they could tell you that. I don't say that to make you feel bad or take away hope... not at all, I just don't see how it's possible, unless the processes are different for different types of AP. None of it makes any sense, eh?

You are right about keeping the faith. Insh-Allah we'll all be reunited soon.

At the very least I'm going back to Africa to see him in December...

hey guys well i called DOS again since i wanted to try to get chris to pick up since he is the one who told me about last 30 days of AP...

and he did pik up!!

he said im in AP.. currently

so i told him i spoke to you 2 weeks back and you said im in last 30 days of ap, how would you know that...

he said well they have this in the system, where, if a follow up was done in last 30 days, then it can be done. so we are waiting..

those were his words.. so i gues he tried to tel me that theres something that was done to my case, and that something can finish ap in 30 days.. im guessing

i did not ask anything else, i just said thanks, u borught me some hope and he said good luck!

i did not udnerstand everyhting he said it was just a brief decription of a follow up being done..

anyone can explain this? or can guess wat might he be sayin

It's all so CRAZY I hate it!! It's like being at USCIS during the backlog all over again and not getting any answers why our case was Beyond the processing time and why it was taking so long when others were getting approved within a couple of months!

Have faith everyone, you will hear something sweet soon!! Perhaps before the Holidays - INSHALLAH!!!!!!! I am praying for you all!!

Phoning DOS for information is a nearly complete waste of time, except that most of the agents are a bit more congenial and sympathetic than anyone at USCIS. You must call your embassy -- and, if you are a U.S. citizen, insist on speaking with an American.
