What is up with Americans and politics?

That's why you need to set boundaries. I make it a point never to talk about politics at work or strangers. If my friends and family start talking about it, I keep it light and move on. But I do LOOOOOOOOOOOVE to watch it on the news every night or on the internet. Ohhh, it's so good to read about that #######.

He is like: why are you always watching and reading that ####### when everyone knows that all politicians are liars?

i'm sure he has a point, but i am addicted. Especially now that we are talking Terrorists and Socialists... it is like reading a shameful gossip magazine over someone's shoulder on the subway...

But in all seriousness, it is kinda an exciting election. 3/4 of the country is unhappy with Bush, so the prospect of something new is exciting. Also, Hillary's bid for first serious woman presidential candidate in the primaries; the possibility of the first woman VP; the possibility of the first black Arab Muslim Bolshevik president...

How can it not be exciting?

Seems to be more interest in this election than in the ones years past, almost like Americans are waking up to the fact that our country is going to hell. Gee, ####### did my job go? And what about holding up a gas station, now they are holding us up!

I tend to send my share of letters to my senator and congressman, but get replies like I am only one in a hundred or with Nancy up there I can't do ####. So I wrote to Nancy, waste of time, but if millions would write to her, she may wake up.

This has been the longest campaign ever, wouldn't be surprised if the next one is started November 5th and why even have a convention when it's all over before it starts. But maybe in two weeks, this board will be discussing more pertinent subjects, like Britney.

My husband's theory is that it's because we don't have football (soccer) to absorb all our petty tribalism - like some Liverpool fans will hate Man United with an all-consuming passion, so will "Repugs" hate "Dems". Thinking about it - the political parties even have team colors and mascots. The only thing missing is fights in pubs.

i'm not sure how americans would respond to football hooliganism, do you think they'd call for military backup?
