That has nothing to do with the context of this thread.

Well it does. How would Mexico like it if we sent the 45,000,000+ Americans living in poverty there; which was a suggestion by Ted.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

didnt read all of this but welfare should be a helping hand UP not a way of life and if by whatever means someone illegal is getting benefits sure ship them back to country of origin. But welfare covers many situations a young mother with small kids, need to learn skills to provide, not paid to have more kids...our elderly maybe cant work didnt plan ahead, got sick so they will need to be taken care of cant just ignore or ship them off...my gmom had retirement to help her but my gfs mom had nothing so she had assistance to help with the care. Take a small amount teach skills and responsibilities for a limited time, dont make it a way of life. So many now have come thru generation after generation with knowing how to make the system work for them because this is what they grew up knowing, the chain has to be broken somewhere. Anyway my 2 1/2 cents

There's no way in hell for the US to garuntee 100% jobs for everyone. I know it's not fair to those who work. But, it's only less 10% of Americans. Plus, they're not getting that much in income.

And, not everyone who are on welfare wants welfare. They need support long enough until they are well off on their own.

I am an advocate as long as their are systems that combs through the illegitimate applicants. (Aka. Those who are on welfare forever!)

Honestly, Engineers can pretty much get a job anywhere and so as Doctors (Medical). So, for me I understand my position. However, those who are in environment where they are at a disadvantage such as lack of skills, or over laborers have a tough time getting jobs. So, we cannot abolish welfare entirely.

If you want welfare to be abolish, then you're welcome to goto Cuba, Mexico, Cambodia, Vietnam...etc...Those are countries that has no welfare, and take a look at their environment. It's no site to be seen. There's a multitude of problems if welfare is removed. Trust me, those on welfare don't get alot. My family was on it before I graduated from college. I had 6 siblings. We got about 2000/month. Not that my parents want kids, it's because they got us while we were in Cambodia during the the USA bombing on HO CHI MINH trail that stretched from North Cambodia, and into Western Vietnam.

My mother and father got metal pieces of those fragments in their skulls, bones, etc...When we came to the US, we demanded that the US provided us with restitution. They did in welfare. These are cases when welfare is needed because the parents cannot pay for child support because of disabilities.

An excellent idea.. go next door.. get a better job, send money home help the economy!.. Ye have to love the Mexicans.. they remind me of us a 100+ years ago!!

Forgot to add... someone should make Ted unemployed and ship him off to China!

You are right it is a good thing right. I am sure the Irish would love to see people walk, push them aside and take over their jobs; suppressing wages and so forth. Actually I have seen first hand how 'open' they are to this idea in Aus. The unions and the Irish go hand in hand there. Not only would they be kicking and screaming but they would be tearing government buildings down. If the US government allows people from another nation to walk in here and take a job that an American could be doing, then the blame rests on them. A job that one of the millions of Americans who are out of work could be doing might I add.

Welfare is useless without opportunity, otherwise we would become a France. Opportunity is not an option when you have an unlimited supply of cheap labor.

There are many people from all over the world now working and living in Ireland. For the most part they are welcomed. Only a minority of small minded biggots that run rampent all over the planet dislike them or change.

There is nothing wrong with France and there was nothing wrong with France when it was kicking the Royal Navy's #######. If it hadn't have saved America's bacon then you'd maybe all be enjoying the benefits of a Prime Minister and socialized health care and all the other benefits your neighbor to the north currently enjoy!

There are plenty of people out of work in America and in Europe.. all over the world.. there always will be. Just because people are willing to pickup the $hitty jobs, dig in and push forward does not mean they are "stealing jobs".

These are cases when welfare is needed because the parents cannot pay for child support because of disabilities.
Then:

a]. They should not have kids.

b]. If they do, they should give them up for adoption to those who CAN support them.

c]. They should beg and/or request voluntary donations from whomever.

In no case, should the tax payers be required to pay for someone else's failure to afford their children.

I don't agree akdiver.

This is a selfish behavior, and irresponsible because I've seen many people neglect helping others while they outright say they will help people. Some people donate to the salvation army, and some don't. In your life, if you already have kids then what is your solution to finding food for your children when you're not capable of doing so.

As a matter of fact, in a basic microeconomics class they teach the basic of absolute cost, benefits and marginal cost and benefits. With marginal costs, benefits you get more gain versus absolute. When this applies to the labor market because it is applicable to that as well since there's a floor wage and ceiling wage that will determine wages+salary for most laborers. We can still use the supply, and demand curve to determine the wages+salary of most workers. Marginally, there'll be more productive output if the slope is steep. How do this translate into more people working hard to live independently from welfare? These people have limited resources and skills, they will work harder than the average person who already have capital, and land.

Well, akdiver, I don't expect you to absorb the impact but if welfare was not available I can imagine the amount of people living in the streets. And, law and order will be a problem because there'll be people living with nothing to loose in their life. Therefore, you'll be paying money (taxes) to cover for their jail time.

What's selfish and irresponsible is creating children and then insisting that other people pay for them.

In your life, if you already have kids then what is your solution to finding food for your children when you're not capable of doing so.
Either get funds on your own, or give them up to someone who can afford them.

And, law and order will be a problem because there'll be people living with nothing to loose in their life.
Ramp up the production lines in the bullet factories.

Therefore, you'll be paying money (taxes) to cover for their jail time.
There are much cheaper options.
