Have not seen either candidate for change yet. When is this going to happen?

In the most basic of terms, it could be any Democratic candidate representing a change in which party is in the White House and along with it, the Democratic Party's platform which is fundamentally different than the direction the Bush Administration has taken us since Clinton was in office. If this was 2000 again, Bush and the Republicans would be representing that change. It's not rocket science. While Obama has his own agenda for change on top of that, even on the most basic of terms, there's no question that his ticket represents change and McCain's - stay the course.

So again where and when is the change I am hearing about except the name chamge of the party?

It's not 'just a change in party.' The Democratic Party's platform is far different from the Republican Party's. Like I said, if this were 2000 again, those supporting Bush could lay claim to be the agents of change, and so they did....took us from the Clinton Administration's policies to 8 years of Bush's policies. Again, this isn't rocket science for the voters. This election will be won or lost on that fundamental aspect - change or stay the course.

Actually no. There is no large difference at all. Even a very small change. They both are saying the same things. If they are both saying the same things then there is no change except the name of the party.

Back in 2000, I had voted for Nader (registered Green Party since 1997) because I felt that Clinton/Gore had abandoned too much of what the Democratic Party had long stood for. Those were different economic times. Clinton had embraced a lot of the free market economic policies (NAFTA as an example), which hurt many American workers. I would hope that if Clinton were to reflect back on some of those policies, he would recognize the failures and would agree that the Democratic Party in 2008 needs to reassert itself on issues such as protecting American jobs. Obama has long been an advocate of that and a harsh critic of many of the trade agreements such as NAFTA that have ultimately hurt Americans. I see in his candidacy a different direction than where the Democratic Party was back 8 years ago and I'm hopeful, not cynical.

I absolutely respect that view, and I also wish I saw Clinton reflect on that, and for the most part Democrats show more solidarity for the interest of the people who vote for them. I respect that Obama has indeed started to oppose NAFTA, and even further opposed CAFTA. His reasons for that made perfect sense. But I'm left with asking myself is simply opposing CAFTA and resisting NAFTA enough to justify giving my vote to someone who has already agreed to taking my rights away not to have the government snooping in on my conversations unless I'm either committing or suspected of committing a crime? Priority-wise, I'd much rather give my vote to someone who is for both but also respected, first and foremost, my rights.

Btw, here is the roll call vote for the FISA amendment+amnesty:

http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll...&vote=00170

Obama voted yes, but Biden and Clinton both voted no.

Even worse was his statement:

http://obama.senate.gov/press/080212-obama_statement_122/

"I am proud to stand with Senator Dodd, Senator Feingold and a grassroots movement of Americans who are refusing to let President Bush put protections for special interests ahead of our security and our liberty. There is no reason why telephone companies should be given blanket immunity to cover violations of the rights of the American people - we must reaffirm that no one in this country is above the law.

"We can give our intelligence and law enforcement community the powers they need to track down and take out terrorists without undermining our commitment to the rule of law, or our basic rights and liberties. That is why I am proud to cosponsor several amendments that protect our privacy while making sure we have the power to track down and take out terrorists.

"This Administration continues to use a politics of fear to advance a political agenda. It is time for this politics of fear to end. We are trying to protect the American people, not special interests like the telecommunications industry. We are trying to ensure that we don't sacrifice our liberty in pursuit of security, and it is past time for the Administration to join us in that effort."

He failed to get passed an amendment taking out the amnesty from the courts playing their role of arbiters and protectors of the Constitution (which itself was no biggie since he can't make every Senate vote), and rather than vote against the bill, he still votes for it with the amnesty provision, then makes his fvcking press release acting like he's some champion of rights?? With the swipe of a pen my fourth amendment was just obliterated, and the intent behind the original FISA, with Obama's support. How many articles spawned from this about pissed off Democrats or "liberals", hell, anyone who legitimately cares about civil rights? Seems the closer you get to the election, the shorter (or more politically contrived/defensive) people's memory gets.

I know I'm harping on this issue, because it's single-handedly the largest and unconscionable to overlook or excuse.

I think being hopeful is a good attitude to have. We need realistic hope and realistic action, not pipe dreams and things that have no chance of happening.

Well, there is a chance for Obama, but very, very dim. It would mean he has to go against the grain of his entire party, the entire Congress, really, to put through his supposed plans. What are the chances of this occurring? Think Royal Flush or LHC creating a black hole that devours the Earth odds. Even worse for John McCain who wants to stupidly suggest he can stop earmarks, and logic dictates he wouldn't even try to stop it, and I'm sure he knows he couldn't anyways. I can't begin to suggest how intrinsically screwed up and empty most of these "promises" are.

With this 700 billion goin out yau errrrrrr yau errrrrrrr the door all Barry's programs are never gonna get through. When asked what he was gonna cut, he never gave an answer.

McCain on the other hand errrrrrr yau errrrrr yau talked cutting spending and getting rid of pork.

Obama is and as always been pie in the sky. Obama as built is candacy on errrr yau errrrrr yau promises that can in no way be kept. The saddest part about it is the people that blindly follow him no matter what.

I edited my post so Obama supporters could read it easier.

I guess civility goes out the door with you. Its unfortunate when adults try to use insults to get a point across instead of try to use facts. Its very obvious that when you remove $700 billion from the economy due to failed policies of a Republican president and continue to spend $10 billion on a war that we shouldn't have been in to begin with, I guess you blame it on the guy who is trying to make change. :bonk:

Its a shame that I see this from all many Republican supporters. Smug and very insulting people, who instead of bringing new points to the table, use insults and slander to try to bring someone down. :wow:

well the truth is .... the economy started going bad because Clinton signed away the protections. also if you notice ... the economy turned south when the Democrat congress (who was going to change things) took over. did you notice that Nancy Pelosi instead of helping us with gas prices, sent everyone on vacation?

What I find interesting is that when Obama stutters or stammers during a debate or while publicly speaking, it's considered "okay" or that "everyone has problems from time to time, but it's no indication of intelligence or lack thereof." Meanwhile, the anti-Bush crowd has been viciously attacking him (calling him "stupid," "moron," "idiot," and so forth) every single time he stutters or stammers for the last eight years or so.

So why does Obama get a free pass when Bush didn't receive one and never has?

Well to be fair - Bush's problem isn't just about stuttering and stammering, as much as that he has said quite a lot of stupid $hit. Bush must be the only US president to have a section in bookstore humour sections devoted to him.

Sure he's got a record. His platform for his run for the White House, however, has nothing to do with his record. It's a polar opposite. Chew on that.

Perhaps being able to change with the times and for what is better for the country isn't all bad. Unlike Bush who has steered a straight course down a winding road. I like to think that a good politician can change his mind when something isn't working and a better way to do it becomes apparent, be it Obama or McCain. Obama has no record, only talk. Can he make the talk reality? That remains to be seen.

McSame isn't changing his positions for the better of the country. Remember, he has adopted and pledged to continue many of the failed Bush policies of the last 7+ years. That's not for the better of the country, it was to get the fanatics in his party to support his candidacy. Country first my #######.

And while you might either just ignore it or be ignorant in that regard, Sen. Obama has an extensive record. Take the time to look it up. Making the same false claim over and over makes you look a bit silly. But perhaps this is why McSame is so attractive to you and yours. *shrugs*

And acting like a blind faith sheep may make one look silly too. Where is the substance? Tell me what Obama has done that makes him Presidential material. You sound like a broken record. If Osama says jump, you ask how high.

BS. You've been told time and again what Obama's record is. You continuously choose to gnore it. I'm not wasting my time with this BS argument of yours. Besides, if Obama doesn't have a record, then how is he labeled the most liberal Senator by all of you dittoheads?

Actually, McCain is the one who is coming off looking like a name dropping idiot who hasn't had an original idea in his life and has no idea what reality is like today. It is kind of embarassing watching him. Obama looks presidential. McCain looks like his next job might be the Santa Claus at Macy's.

:thumbs::thumbs: But I wouldn't wanna sit on his lap! :goofy:

PWNED!!!!

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

Why vote for someone who isn't courting my vote? What is the point?

Wait, what? Last I checked if they're on the ballot or even express interest in being President that's an equivalent of courting your vote.

Now, it's very apparent to actually get into one of the two major parties, today, (since it's all about party loyalty now), thus get coverage, one has to grease their hands and get ready for a corporate enema. However, while it's wise for someone who wants to be a President to get to as many doorsteps as possible, it isn't terribly feasible, especially when the media clearly doesn't care about third parties or other contenders (beyond the most sensational, like Al Sharpton, Ralph Nader, or Ron Paul), so like when finding out decent music, in all likelihood you have to do most of the searching, based upon your own criteria, rather than let others decide your favorite music based upon their criteria.

Being on the ballot means that some other knucklehead party wants them voted in. That has no bearing on whether I want them voted in. Last I checked, Colin Powell wasn't on any ballot, nor did he want to be.

The others are courting your vote. You have to be receptive to it and listen and open to change.

I'm open to political change, but what I hear from third parties is warmed over wishful thinking. I don't see any yet that I can support. One change is no more lawyers for president. We could use an honest CPA in the office, tho.
