you think this person knows what they're talking about? lol.. i think you're giving them a bit too much credit. clearly they're some numbers that they are plucking out of thin air. that's why there is no evidence or sources ;)

i say 100% of people who earn more than $250,000 who don't think they should pay more tax than everyone else is an a$$

The stats are from a Heritage Foundation report back in March 2007

Edited by Aficionado

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

And what did CNN tell you their gross annual income was? Total number of exemptions? Earned Income Credit? Childcare expenses?

:rofl::thumbs:

of course CNN, a totally credible source...

Liberal to others.

I'll give them a break. I am sure as a 'conservative think thank' they are definitely interested in making sure all in the society pay a proportional, fair share of their income for the benefit of all. Yeah... right.

uh huh, and because you saw it on tv (CNN lol, i mean cmon), it must be true, right?

Yes, unlike your facts which are clearly pulled out of your ###.

Not the point.

Here is a another fact for you:

Low skilled households:

* Pay $9,689 in taxes.

* Receive $32,138 in benefits.

They pay almost 10 grand in taxes and their household income is what...30k a year?

Also, what are the $32,000 worth of benefits you speak of? I'm sure they are substantial and in no way am I in favour of giving people massive amounts of benefits, but can you give me a breakdown of what they are?

Not the point. I don't get $32K in benefits. I paid close to $62K in federal tax last year. What did I get?

Probably a nice town to live in, good schools, relatively safe community, and a more than comfortable lifestyle.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

perhaps you would like to state the answers to my earlier questions, or perhaps you would like to avoid them and continue pretending you are right?

The only logical tax is a fair tax where everyone pays the same rate. Plus the country needs to implement the modern GST, as have most other developed OECD nations.

But I have to say this, I agree with Biden. Actually this is where I differ greatly with republicans. Americans need to pay more tax. That means all Americans. The country is freakin falling apart and starting to look like Mexico city yet people like McCain are proposing cutting taxes. That is just stupid. There is no logic behind it. Sorry for the Regan lovers but those days are gone. The government needs to collect taxes to use it to give the community the opportunity to grow. It needs to use it to generate growth.

PS maviwaro. American liberals have a knack at looking at issues through emotion rather than logic. You can bring up any issue and you will find that most liberal responses are based on emotion, rather than logic. Now I am not saying the ultra wing conservatives are any better but since moving here and even when considering some of the responses on various issues here in the OT section alone, this is quite evident and sticks out like a swollen thumb. Take any issue we have discussed in this forum alone and 9/10 times the reponses from known liberals are based on emotion and never on reality. Cough cough Cause and Effect. ;)

How come when Bush doled out $600 per tax filer it was a gimmick but when Obama gives a $1000 to the middle class it's a stroke of genius? Why do most economist think it's a bad idea to raise taxes in a recession? Ok, it's not really a recession but Obama it is so it must be true.

After hearing about how Obama and friends got the biggest campaign contributions from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Looks pretty even-handed to me:

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0708/11781.html

http://www.opensecrets.org/news/2008/09/up...nd-freddie.html

, I take back the notion that he had no achievements while in the Democrat controlled Congress. He helped destroy the U.S. housing market and financial system in less than two years at the cost of $800 billion to $2 trillion dollars. Now that's an achievement.

you're right, it's not a recession. Sound minds on Wall Street have been making comparions to the Great Depression in recent days. No joke.

Redistributing the economic balance is not such a bad idea, especially in a country that is as dependent as ours on consumer spending. After all, the govt. stimulus checks in the amount of $600 or $1200 made a difference, albeit a very temporary one. So, if it was the rich driving the economy, why didn't the Bushies give $60,000 to the top income earners? Because, it wouldn't have worked. The middle class IS the economy, for better or worse, our homes, our SUVs (well, not mine), our boats, our appliances, etc. etc.

it's not rocket science.

When I first read this earlier today I right away remembered from reading on Obama's own website him say that he would let the tax cuts from many years ago just expire. I also remember that would mean everyone except the lower class making under 22,000 (Could be off on this figure) a year pay more taxes. This generally means we will all be more patriotic now and not just the over 250,000.

How is he gonna explain that away? I am hoping he just deletes that info from the website except many I know has already downloaded the contents of his website.

Obama is a Socialist. He has several socialist plans (especially socialized health care) that is gonna be very expensive and bureaucratic nightmarish. It is gonna have to be paid for and trust me just recinding the tax cuts will not begin to pay for it.

The same rate isn't the same nor is it proportional to cost of living.

Hence, the community can't grow if a low skilled worker pays proportionally more out of pocket for goods and services as compared to a high paid person.

Coincidentally, its less than 5% of the population that is to pay more, quantities that would very most likely (conjecture) be relatively insignificant compared to the crass amount of salary and total income received.

You do the math on that and what is logically fair- partisanship aside.

PS- Define 'known' liberals, emotional response, and what reality is to you. That's yet another question you've been asked to define with clarity... something you personally have refused time and time again.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.
