Hello,

I don't know exactly where to post this thread and i don't think it belongs to off topic so here it is.

I recently got on netflix and they had this movie/documentary called mail order wife.

Did anyone saw it ? What are your reactions ?

Personally i kinda did like it, makes you realize the culture difference, the different abuse that can happen (one way or another), the communication possibilities... i would like to hear about you ! what do you think about it ?

It sounds like a "Lifetime original movie" LOL!

"you fondle my trigger then you blame my gun"

Timeline: 13 month long journey from filing to visa in hand

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

on netflix, you can see it directly online !

Yes, i realized it was not a real documentary afterward (honestly i prefer that)

I am sure on the other hand that some of the drama there can really happen, one way or another.

check it out and keep your comment posted :)

No,but I saw Green Card with Gerard Depadieu and Andie McDowell.

May 7,2007-USCIS received I-129f
July 24,2007-NOA1 was received
April 21,2008-K-1 visa denied.
June 3,2008-waiver filed at US Consalate in Panama
The interview went well, they told him it will take another 6 months for them to adjudicate the waiver
March 3,2009-US Consulate claims they have no record of our December visit, nor Manuel's interview
March 27,2009-Manuel returned to the consulate for another interrogation(because they forgot about December's interview),and they were really rude !
April 3,2009-US Counsalate asks for more court documents that no longer exist !
June 1,2009-Manuel and I go back to the US consalate AGAIN to give them a letter from the court in Colon along with documents I already gave them last year.I was surprised to see they had two thick files for his case !

June 15,2010-They called Manuel in to take his fingerprints again, still no decision on his case!
June 22,2010-WAIVER APPROVED at 5:00pm
July 19,2010-VISA IN MANUELITO'S HAND at 3:15pm!
July 25,2010-Manuelito arrives at 9:35pm at Logan Intn'l Airport,Boston,MA
August 5,2010-FINALLY MARRIED!!!!!!!!!!!!
August 23,2010-Filed for AOS at the International Institute of RI $1400!
December 23,2010-Work authorization received.
January 12,2011-RFE

You all should read "A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian." It's truly hilarious. It's what would happen in any family if your elderly widowed father brought home a mail-order bride, a tart, as the man's daughter liked to call her.

I saw Mail Order Wife. It's a cute indy, mostly very well done, definitely worth seeing. I got a kick out of the "K1 visa," which is basically meeting your bride for the very first time at the airport. I won't spoil it for anyone, but it's definitely worth adding to the top of your Netflix queue.

Birthday Girl with Nicole Kidman is another "mail order bride goes wrong" movie that's worth seeing. It's not quite as good as Mail Order Wife, but Nicole Kidman is fantastic and completely believable as a Russian woman. (I have a Ukranian friend that couldn't believe she wasn't really from Moscow.)

2 Brothers and a Bride (also goes by A Foreign Affair) is also an interesting movie with a fantastic premise, but be warned that it suffers from some basic plot problems and incompetent editing. But still very worth seeing in the "genre" and was filmed on location in St. Petersburg. (shame they didn't show more of the city than they did though.)

Stay away from Mail Order Bride. It's so awful it's unwatchable. I can't even begin to explain what a train wreck this movie was, just take my word for it.

2 brothers and a bride was pretty good. I could actually stand David Arquettte's acting for a short while!

Mail Order Wife - is that the one where the woman is from Burma and the guy who is ostensibly filming a "documentary" steal's his freaky friends mail order wife? His friend likes to keep snakes?

"you like snake, I like pig"

that one?

Thanks for the reviews. I had some mail-order bride movie in my Netflix queue but haven't seen it yet. I'll check out the ratings on Rottentomatoes.com on the movies.

Mail Order Wife

that's the one - I was slightly fooled into thinking it was real when I first started watching it - then when the translator drew a diagram about why lichi would be upset when the "girlfriend" slept over - lol - I realized it could not be real
