So i'm confused. For the interview for the CR-1 do you have to have another marriage cert, birth cert, police cert? Or is it just suggested to have them just in case?

Yes, you need to secure original copies of these in order for the interviewer to compare your documents. but be sure to have these documents photocopied, just in case you will be ask by the consul to give a copy, you can just give the photocopy & you can keep the originals... :)

When you submit the DS-230 you will need to submit the original or certified copyof the marriage and birth certificate. The police record needs to be orginal but make sure you make copies for yourself. You don't submit these documents during the interview because you will have to send it to NVC and the case will be forwarded to the embassy for the interview. Make sure you have copies of all documents for yourself. Good luck.

ROCA

NVC will forward all the original civil documents to the consulate.

The consulate will return the original civil documents except the police cert, you need to prepare a xerox copy of the civil documents for the consulate i.e. my consulate specially says in the instruction sheet if you fail to so, they will charge $1 per page for whatever documents they xerox for you!!

Wow, talk about conflicting answers

First answer is - Yes you have to have originals with you.

Second answer is - No you don't need originals to take to the interview - just photocopies for yourself

Third answer is - You need to provide a photocopy of the originals at the interview.

The REAL answer is - it can be any of the above.

Every consulate/embassy had their own set of specific guidelines - if you did not receive these guidelines with your interview letter you should contact the consulate/embassy yourself and ask them this question.

For instance, with the CR1/IR1 interview in Montreal - none of the above apply - no need for photocopies or additional originals.

Yes conflicting answers :P

But I agree with Tod-leah. If you have submitted originals at NVC then there is no need for any other originals during the interview. If you haven't submitted originals at NVC then yes, you will have to take those during interview.

And about photocopies, that is for precautionary reasons. There have been many incidents where the consular wants to go through what you filled initially with i-130 and consular are known not to look at the file before taking the interview, so its better you have a copy of documents with yourself.
