Ukraine is difficult to find for free, but if you have someone who lives in Moscow/St. Petersburg and want to call free using VOIP try these guys, my friend has them and says it saves him thousands.

http://www.choosemcc.com/digital/

Here is my story. I've lived problem free life, payed my taxes. One day I decided to marry this girl. But to do so would require her to come to US of A, and so it started. My problem free live turned in to free problems from USCIS! Sure things turned to unsure, certain dates turned to aproximation within months. All logical thinking was out the door, as I filed my papers withing famous Vermont Centre!

we pay about 28 bucks a month for Vonage.... and no extra charges for long distance .. and that also includes voice mail, call display etc..

with regular phone it costs about 30 bucks or more a month and when you make long distance calls that goes way higher... and then add the call display and voice mail and it is even higher...

Take a look at www.Magicjack.com. If you have a running computer with high speed Internet, you can get 1 yearof service for about $50, or 5 years of service for about $100. Free US and Canada calls, and a US phone number. I have two of them, one in the Philippines, and one here. It's free for me to call Magicjack the Phils, and free for them to call anywhere here. Just my two cents, I'm into cheap if it works, and it does...

yeah I did look it up and I like to read reviews and about 95% of the people had bad things to say about it...

one thing I don't like is that in order for it to work the computer has to be on.. I always turn my computer off overnight and if we are going to be gone for a long period of time...

Vonage works even if the computer is off.....

but if Magicjack works for you, great :)

actually with VOIP you don't really need a computer.. you just need a internet connection... Vonage phone works even if your computer doesn't ..

but yes if your internet connection goes out so does your phone but most people have cell phones now a days that you can use for back-up...

I agree. If they did an Ethernet version I'd be first in line to get one! I have a big family with several computers, so I just run it on the computer that I use as a Network Server (Printers and Shared Disk Storage). That's not a desirable option for everyone.

I don't like answering the phone at night anyway, and can't if I'm gone! It has voicemail, if it had Call Forwarding like Skype, then that issue would have a work around. Skype is still less money than Vonage, but I've had issues with the phone shutting down if you missdial a call. Until the pop-up window stating that you dialed incorrectly is closed, the phone doesn't work incoming, or outgoing. Most annoying! My Skype phone is a USB device as well, same issues...

I've had issues with the Magicjack too. Nothing is perfect. All of my issues have been on one Magicjack thankfully the one here in the US. They seem to be fixed by a software upgrade, they make upgrades very painless, click of a button on the WEB site. Never had a problem with the second one.

There are also a lot of rave reviews in some forums out there. If there weren't, I'd never have made the investment! :bonk:

Cheers...

We have been using Vonage for a couple of months now, I really like it. One thing I have noticed is that, sometimes, the voice delivery is a tad delayed, which results in people talking over other people...but not all the time.

I also signed up for their virtual number, so now my family in Calgary can call me as well - it is only $5 a month for that feature.

I tried magicjack - complete waste of time and money (I mailed it back) - of the say - week - we had it, there were 2 entire days when it didn't work.

I'm sure it must work well for some people.
