ATT is much better for rates especially calling CANADA.

I thought with Vonage calls to Canada were free.... If so, AT&T must be paying you each time you call....

we pay about 28 bucks a month for Vonage.... and no extra charges for long distance .. and that also includes voice mail, call display etc..

with regular phone it costs about 30 bucks or more a month and when you make long distance calls that goes way higher... and then add the call display and voice mail and it is even higher...

Not intended to get into a vonage versus other voip provider discussion, but my voip service comparable to vonage, is only $17 each month.

YMMV

oh and I also wanted to mention that here in LA (not sure if it is the same elsewhere) sometimes you can call the town a mile or two away and it is long distance..

I was happy with it when I had it. It was really easy to install and call quality was good (though not quite as good as a regular phone). I got rid of it because I almost never used it; I pretty much only used my cell phone.

You could do PR for Vonage :)

Here is my story. I've lived problem free life, payed my taxes. One day I decided to marry this girl. But to do so would require her to come to US of A, and so it started. My problem free live turned in to free problems from USCIS! Sure things turned to unsure, certain dates turned to aproximation within months. All logical thinking was out the door, as I filed my papers withing famous Vermont Centre!

magicjack is even cheaper, but operates via a USB port, so you must always have a PC turned on....

I saw that on one of those home shopping channels and I was like cool but then I read a bunch of online reviews about it and hardly anyone had anything good to say about it...

I've used vonage for 3+ years and no problems. Also taken my voip adapter on business trips (home and overseas) so I could call Brazil when Isa had internet problems (skype not an option at that time). Taking the adapter (router) overseas also allowed me to call my family back in the states ... for free ... when I had broadband available ... which for me was quite often.

Figured if I'm paying for quality broadband at home ... why not use it. Better than paying broadband plus a landline. And there is also the mobile phone (corporate) in case of emergency ...

I do understand that some people have problems with it.. like I mentioned earlier it is one of the mysteries of life why some thing work for some people and not for others

I have Comcast Broadband at $50+ per month and had Comcast Digital Voice for $50+ per month.... I liked the digital voice service but got tired of the cost.

If I could just find a voip service that offers free LD to Ukraine....

Vonage has been decent for me. Of course, like all VOIP, it's entirely dependent upon bandwidth free.

I've had it since November 2007, and when started averaged around 6,000 - 8,500 minutes a month (plus work) talking to her. It's had a couple hiccups, but very few.

I may keep it when the better half is here for good, for her to call her family. Depends on how often she plans on talking to them.

I'd give it a 8.5/10.

I've heard of some particular nightmares in disconnecting. So beware of this part.
