"Duplicate Evidence" What?

I was just going through the I-134 instructions word by word again and came across this:

"The sponsor must submit in duplicate evidence of income and resources, as appropriate."

Duplicate evidence -- what the heck are they getting at? Multiple copies? Photo copies of orginal documents? Several documents that support the same item?

Everybody I've known going through the process has simply ignored the word duplicate without problem.

One thing about I-134, the directions included with I-134 are very old, USCIS has no reason to update them since USCIS has no application for that form.

The consulates tend to treat the I-134 like a mini-I-864 as so prefer the same financial evidence as the I-864.

In our case this what the I-134 included.

  • I-134 signed and notarized.

  • SIMPLE Tax transcripts from the IRS for past 3 years, (Redundant for the (1040,W2,1099) but are free from the IRS http://www.irs.gov/faqs/faq1-6.html

  • Photo copy of IRS form 1040, and W2s for past 3 years (Not necessary if you provide the transcripts)

  • Letter from my employer stating annual salary, job responsibility, and that is full time, on company letterhead.

  • Photo copies of past month or so of pay stubs up to a few weeks before the interview.
My income was well above the povertyline so I did not include any asset data (LIKE BANK STATEMENTS or property values).

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

I made the same question when we started preparing our documents! To me, duplicate means two sets of the original printing with the original signature. BUT when the time came, we just made a regular copy of everything, at the end the CO did not even ask for the copies just the originals.

We made a copy of everything . When AOS time rolled around my file was as large as theirs. You here stories at time where they lose paperwork from your file .For my peace of mind it was worth it. For my wife we had several copies of her divorce and birth certificates. It is a long way back home to get a one with the offical stamp after she arrives.

You are exactly right. Two copies of everything! Remember if your income exceeds the guidelines, and is verified, you do not need to provide anything else, leave it blank or put "n/a" Also at the interview, they glanced at the supporting evidence (one copy) detached it all and gave it back to me and kept only the affadavit. Go figure. Better to have it and not need it though. What I did is make two I-134s for my fiancee, had both affadavits notarized and attached the supporting documents to each and gave them everything. They will give you back what they don't need.
