Is it recommended to Hire a laywer when Applying for the K3?

We hired a laywer for the k3, how many others out there did?

Also, when I see other peoples timeline it says NO1 Touched. How do you know it's been touched?

On the UCIS website I just know I'm in there and it tells me when its last been updated. But no updates for 2 months now.

sometimes the USCIS website is unreliable. my I-129F status in the USCIS website is STILL pending, even though i'm done with visa interview in the us embassy and all.

i was talking to someone who hired a lawyer and spent around $5,000+++ for her and her daughter. there are a lot of VJ members who did not hire a lawyer at all and were just extremely resourceful. Visajourney has all the guides you need and should you have a specific question not included in the guides, the members who have gone through the same thing would be eager to answer your inquires. not only that, you can also use the search tool.

my hubby and i didn't hire a lawyer. we solely depended on visajourney for all the steps we had to take. and of course, fellow VJ members were extremely helpful. =)

of course, if you want everything taken care of by a lawyer without having to do research and all, that's a good idea too.

Not many people here on VJ hire lawyers if they have pretty straightforward cases. If you're good at following instructions and keeping up with paperwork, you're good on your own.

Cases are touched when the date in the USCIS case status web page changes. If it doesn't, it means it hasn't been touched.

I agree with Mononoke. Unless there are unusual circumstances surrounding your case, the petition process is pretty straightforward and visajourney has all the info you need.

I did it all myself, and with the help and advice from Visa Journey, and had no problems. The thing here is to read, then read again, and when you are done, read everything over again for mistakes and correctness. You do not want to omit anything or make misteakes. DO NOT GET IN A HURRY!!!

Ask me about hiring a lawyer? Oh goodness! I would say NO!!!! :bonk: It is much better if you will do it on your own. Believe me, it is not that fun to wait for the lawyer's call or e-mail. My husband hired a lawyer, too.. :bonk:

I promise to love you in good times and in bad, with all I have to give and all that I am, in the only way I know how -- completely and forever......

YOu also have to remember that lawyers do not have the same sense of urgency that couples who are away from each other do. I'm not saying that they'd put it off or anything but they cater to other clients to. Handling it yourself would allow you to take faster routes such as patiencepaidoff's fastest NVC process. =)

I recommend you do a CR-1 instead of a K3. MUCH, MUCH better visa! Cheaper also.

Here we go again with the opinions.

CR-1 or K-3. research as they both have their advantages and disadvantages.

What is good for one is NOT always good for another.

Depends on your situation......research and dont follow anyone blindly.

Theres my opinion.

K3/K4s [LIFE ACT] were created to reunite families sooner at a time when CRs were WAY slower. That's not the case anymore. CRs not having to go thru the stress, costs and hassles of adjusting status is HUGE. Add in a slim chance of being denied and deported TO ME makes the K3 a dinosaur.

Been there, done that and still kicking ourselfs in the butte for going with the K3/K4.

K1 denied, K3/K4, CR-1/CR-2, AOS, ROC, Adoption, US citizenship and dual citizenship

!! ALL PAU!

I would have hired a lawyer, but I am poor. So I did it myself. It has been quite difficult for me, searching on the internet for all the right answers, for sample forms to clarify the government forms, etc.... But I have made certain to read, read and read, and to re-read what I type, and re-read again what I type, and again, and again, and again... and check expiration dates of forms..... Have taken great care to be exact and correct in everything, but am sure I still will be wrong someplace.

So, I would have hired a lawyer if I had that luxury. Just take your time if you are doing it alone. Or relax in the luxury of a lawyer...

If you are looking to get your spouse into the United States as soon as possible then the K-3 visa is the way to go. However, if speed is not essential and if it is important that your spouse is a permanent resident from the moment he/she enters the US and will be able to work upon entry into the country, then the Immigrant (CR-1 and IR-1) visas are a better fit.

I had a complicated case, as I was a conditional GC for 1 year and half, and applied naturalization application under 319 but never thought about hiring a lawyer.. As long as you know how to read and follow the instruction carefully, you will be fine.. I am proud to say we did everything.. I am a naturalized citizen now without the help of anyone.. I found VJ online, when I was trying to help a friend.

The lawyer does not speed up the process, they just compile all your documents together.. (and I am sure on this case, you both can do this, so why hire a lawyer?) This cause more delays and the possibility of losing your paperwork..

search forums here in VJ and you will see that majority of the members that hired a lawyer regret it.
