computer help needed...

well, i think i ahve a virus..and came through our virus protection..it was the on and restarted the computer...and then ... for me...

as the windows xp will not reboot....tried all modes ..safe..last known operation, etc..nothing////

also,. i have a windows xp....but in the recovery mode ask allot of questions..like operations??? number?? etc.....so, i am at lost what to do? also, the disk could be from my son's laptop....uncertain, as i thought our windows xp came loaded into the computer..but i could be wrong

i am planning on throwing it into the backyard..but sanita bought it so, i cannot...

you have the chop##ck virus.

do you have a windows xp disk? you may have to reinstall.

i do brother charles..but it says "cannto recognize this disk" but works in the recovery mode

what virus scanner do you have? and did you update it recently?

i think it is mcafee....and i think it does so every night...it showed a symbol and then restarted the computer.....well, that did it

have you looked at the mcafee.com website to see what new viruses are out that may resemble this?

I had to reinstall everything on our laptop last week. Lost some pictures and mp3s, but oh well. I didn't have any disks, but on HPs at least you can just hit f12 while booting and it will wipe everything clean.

if the XP came preloaded on your computer there should be a way to reinstall it... you should look up your type of computer online and see if they show you how to do that...

I know with my computer I had to hit a certain button while the computer booted up and it took me to the reinstall...

Almaty,

Many of the brand name computers has a certificate of authencity (COA) from Microsoft labeled on the back of the machine. Many Dell machines has an internal software that will allow you to use a recovery CD on any computer. This is because of a ROM detection algorithm.

If you cannot find a COA on your computer, then, purchase an OEM version of Win XP from Newegg or other discounted site. However, pirated version may be used, I will not disclose that information in fears that I'll be the one praying for help.

At what point do you get the crash? Do you see the bios screen?

no..i saw the antivirus screen and it turn the computer off..and when it came back on shows the xp screen and then log off and oges to an area where you can go to 'safe mode' etc...
