Having trouble getting a job with the EAD but no GC!

Is there anyone else out there that seems to be having trouble getting a good job even after they have the EAD just because they dont yet have the green card??? I was let go from one job - they hired me on my temp EAD then wouldnt keep me on with my real EAD...#######!! then several other interviews have come and gone and been really good, except they have always got hung up on me not having the green card!

This is frustrating in the extreme!! And it's so hard to explain to people, even though i shud have the GC in a few months

Some people are just very ingorant when it comes to Immigration issues and processes. This really upsets me because it's obvious that their HR deparments need more training in the matter.

I say keep on looking until you find a smart enough company that will know that an EAD is still a valid form of ID and can be used for employment.

totally feel your pain..has been an issue for my husband in med/dental field. What field are you in? I think that they don't realize that they do not need to SPONSOR you. It is an awkward situation to be in. Have you had the interview etc? Best of luck!!!

Same boat here!! I applied after a month I got my EAD. The company that was interested on hiring me was waiting for the update of my GC! The good thing is... they are willing to wait but no definite date how long they can wait.

I told them im going to update them this end of the month(up to now, no update on CSC )... I guess we'll have to talk about my hiring status! GC is the only thing that hinders me from getting the offer..... It's an Engineering field.

For now, I'll stay at home and wait for AOS approval.... Watch tv, surf the net.. etc.. anything that will kill time!!

sorry to hear of the problems..hopefully you will all be approved soon. It is frustrating and really I wish that employers would understand that they do not have to sponsor you and that you're on the path to PR. sigh...no matter how we used to try to spin it, it just didn't fly...

on a positive note, after a crazy wait, we received our "card production ordered email"...

Im in the professional business field and the companies that i have interviewed with a large multinationals...i thought that they would know better!

oh and fyi, stay away from Wells Fargo...they were nice enough to hire me on the 3 month temp ead, only to let me go once that expired, promise to re-hire me when i get the EAD then turn around once i got the EAD and say that they need a GC...and making me wait a month to know this. A$$holes!

On a brighter note, congrats to recent GC approvals and im glad im not the only one having trouble with just having the EAD

That is quite fukced up, indeed. You can always tell companies that the EAD is one of the documents in the I-9 employment eligibility form. What a bunch of idiots

When my husband was job hunting, he would get so ticked off when people had no idea what the EAD was. Several times HR people would say "You dont have a green card, so are you here even legally????" (with a skeptical look)

He decided that when they asked him about the GC next time, he'd nod his head in agreement and say "yes, i'm legally authorized to work". At interviews usually this is enough, and if you get hired, they have to respect the EAD. It helped him, hope it helps you too.

I only have an EAD in my hand, and luckily, I was hired. It is a business/procurement related position for a multi-national company. So far, so good.

My AOS got approved (July 30th) and I forwarded the CRIS email approval notice to the company I applied for (they promised they will hold the position til I get the GC). They were happy to hear the update and instruct me to call them as soon as I get the card.

As of today I still don't have my welcome letter and my GC.

The HR called me this morning and told me that they are going to give me the salary offer whenever I am free to visit. She even said because they aresure already that I will get the GC in 30 days (that's based on the CRIS email notification of card production ordered).

I'm happy that things worked out well..... the company I applied for is really interested in my service (My thinking is: They need me more than I need them! lol)! They really waited!

I wish everyone will have the same luck as i have!

Legally, they can't ask if you have a green card.

If the question comes up, I always said "I have the the required documents to complete an I-9, and do not require sponsorship. You will be able to verify my employment eligibility upon the completion of the I-9."

I completely agree! The person who fills in the I-9 should know better (this was part of my job for several years - I knew better than to ask something so stupid!). And the interviewers should know better as well. It's infuriating to me that people do these types of things!
