About time. The jobs need to be there for Americans and the people here legally. Especially at a time like this when Americans are losing jobs left right and center.

So I take it that you're volunteering to go spend 12 hours a day in 120° weather with no shade, picking chiles in southern New Mexico and Texas? For $7.50 an hour?

is that the going rate?

Pretty much.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Last year there were 67,000 graduates in Engineering. That number is not enough to fill in the job positions in the industry. Where are all the Americans? Are the Americans qualified, or do we need to hire foreign workers? No, everyone is aiming for the 7.50/hour job. ROFL.

WELL said LuckyStrike!

with american companies down sizing workforces due to the economy & trying to boost the bottom line. i think the sympathy for illegal immigrants (i don't care coz it doesn't affect me position) will start to decline quickly. i also see increasing pressure on washington to enforce the current immigration laws & not try to change them to appease special interest groups.

when was there ever "sympathy". Just remember, many of our ancestors stepped off a boat and were legally american residents within a few hours. Few had to go through the ####### that is required nowadays (####### we're all in the midst of on behalf of our beneficiaries).

"Give us your poor, tired, huddled masses and we'll club 'em to death. That's what the statue of bigotry says." -- Lou Reed.

They underwent an exam before they ever stepped on the boat in the first place. If they were not accepted in the USA the shipping companies paid the fare back. So the shipping lines screened immigrants first.

Illegal immigrants today:

have no background check

have no physical exam

pay no fees

pay little to no taxes

get free medical care

All these "conservatives" are anti-immigration. Whatever happened to the free market? There's a free market for labor and if Americans will work ####### jobs for minimum wage, there would be no opportunities here for non-citizens. Hmmmm.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Having read this whole thread I felt compelled to reply to you:

Yes I freeking would except it would have to be in Tucson cause at $7.50/hour I couldn't afford to move... IF I needed a job and it was available, I would take it to ensure my bills are paid!

that is assuming I lost my $60k/year (average) job and couldn't find another job doing what I am currently doing...or I didn't already have a back-up plan.

I worked for McDonald's (at minimum wage) for 10 years because it paid the bills...that's a job I hope never to have to go back to but it is always an option ;)

If it was an option, you'll be wasting your time. You are aware of basic economics. If, you already in the past made 60k, then you already have the experience to you need to look for another high paid job. Trust me, there's a lack of qualified people to fill those positions. Who's in their right mind would demote themself to a low paid job, unless, if I was released from jail.

If you were rich, and every second of your life means you're making millions of dollars, would you sacrifice a second to pick up a penny when you see one.
