i am new here and i found your site through another place but i have so many questions that i want to ask first of all i have some one very close to me that is married to a non us citizen and we just found out that they have a wife back in their country my friend is really in love with this person but i always saw different starting with they don't live in the same home he wants to wait until he gets a ssn card before they can move yeah right but he keeps saying that they have to stay married for 2 years before they can do anything meaning divorce but what does the 2 year wait mean when you marry a u. s. citizen also is their marriage valid if he has a wife back in his country so i hear that when he gets his green card he can divorce her and petition for his wife and child to come over here is this all true i don't want my friend to end up broken hearted but he says he loves her and wants to stay married to her and he tells her he don't want his child to come from Africa over here not until he is grown but i beg differ i know there are scam marriages out here and i know that i feel like she is in one just so he can get the green card i need people that know about this or have experienced this in their past because if her marriage is not valid then i don't know what she will do to him because this man she loves they do everything together at each others houses and i just see that it's not real with him but i could be just to much in her business but we go all the way back from childhood and i don't want to see her hurt any advice i would love thanks a million.................new comer on board

To answer your question...

If the husband never told the wife that he's married to another woman in his country, she should take the time to go to his country to find out what is really going on before doing ANYTHING else.

I am married to a person from Gambia (I am african-american) by the way, and I would NEVER marry a person from another country unless I had gone to his country first, met his whole family AND lived with him atleast 6 months to see what he is like.

But since she is already in that situation, all she can do is either stay with him if she loves him that much (even with lies), or get a divorce. Either way, he most likely will not divorce his wife back home because it is a culture thing.

Why doesn't she go home to his country with him and take a short holiday to visit his family and wife?? That is the best thing she can do at this time. She wont find out anything through him, that's for sure.

thanks alot for answering this question because some people on here are so rude but yeah you know they are suppose to be going to his home town because he has asked her to come home with him to meet his family so the other wife gets a shock he is from ghana but he keeps telling her that he is a christian and you can only be married to one woman not two but look at him he does have two wives Edited by mslove36
