Morning guys and gals...

I need some help....what is the quickest way to get my Canadian Fiance here...and he be able to work? Should we do the fiance visa or should i just go up there, marry him and wait for his green card so he can move here? We're trying to figure out which way would be faster. Thanks for your help!

Quick is relative in this whole process.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

I would say the K1 is the quickest and easiest route to take. There's no quick way.

Nothing is that quick, patience is needed lol. The K1 seems to take between 4-6 months at present depending which service centre you are allocated to.

When he comes in on a K1 visa, you have to get married within 90 days and then file for AOS- adjustment of status, EAD- employment Authorization and the AP- Advanced parole. It usually takes a few months for EAD. Mine was slow- it took 5.

Or you can get married and do the CR1 process- he will receive a 2 year Greencard and be able to work upon entry to the US.

This process is not easy one nor a quick one.

Also- we have a Canadian forum you may want to check out- you will get more info on timelines and what is involved with the process going through Canada.

And with a K1 visa, he won't be able to work until he gets his EAD, but you might get it if he arrives through JFK airport. It won't give you information about the time, but f you need more information about these processes you should check the guides (link under the big VisaJourney.com logo on top of the page)

It also makes a big difference where you live in Canada- there are 2 consulates that handle K visa's- Montreal and Vancouver. Vancouver is much quicker to get in for an interview. Montreal you can be looking at several months to get in for the interview alone- and that is after the approval and processing.

Montreal is the only consulate that handles the CR1 visa.

Edit to add- just noticed your fiance is from Edmonton. Vancouver will be his Consulate. Good news!

If you want to wait for the greencard before moving here you will wait a long time. Greencard is not issued until after the intended immigrant enters the USA

YMMV

You conditions of quick and able to work are at odds with each other.

K-1 may get him here quicker, but you will need to wait for EAD before he can work -- it will take about 90 days after it is filed with the adjustment of status.

If it is essential that he be able to work from the time he gets here, you should get married and go with the CR1 visa.
