Usually I fly with KLM, BA and/or NWA but with the upcoming changes with NWA I don't know if I keep flying if they become Delta... heard too many bad stories about that company... AA is not my preferred airline but I might fly them if needed.

US airways and United totally suck. ...
On these two:
  • My Gainesville-based (FL) cousin calls US Air "useless air"
  • In 1997, United quoted me a price (for a ATL-YYC ticket) for which I could have gotten a travel-agent's flight to India and then added on a Delta flight to Gatwick--about 4.5x the price of Delta or American ticket.

tell me about it. they once lost our 4 suitcases. the suitcases were in Boston the next day. in the airport at least. we spend 2 days trying to get them delivered (calls are transferred to india for gods sake, those people had even less of an idea what was going on. you talk to a person but just as well could be talking to a computervoice) . we live half an hour drive from the airport and ended up picking them up ourself after 3 days. my god was i frustrated.

As a sidenote... I saw a news blurb today that stated Delta and Northwest were merging. Did anyone else see that? It doesn't really surprise me, considering the two are part of something called the "SkyTeam" (which almost sounds like a superhero group) along with Continental and other airlines as well. Delta, Northwest and Continental work together all the time, offering codeshares on each other's flights. So a merger was probably in the making for a long time now.

I received an e-mail yesterday (I have Delta frequent flyer miles) letting me know that NWA and Delta were in the final steps of the merger, only waiting for federal regulatory approval. I also heard abotu the American - US Airways proposed merger.

Prices are expetced to increase (less competition -> higher prices), and 2 mergers would increase prices even higher.

Any word on United and Continental?

Still only heard rumors. I meant to say in my previous post that I was aware of the United - Continental potential merger. It seems like the two were waiting to see how NWA and Delta would proceed before they would. I haven't heard anything about U.S. Air and American.

As someone who works for American I can tell you that ALMOST certainly we would not be merging with US air..their merger with America West has left them kind of a financial mess and with the oil/jetA prices the way they are, AA would not want to take on that liability. They don't have an attractive terminal, routes or anything we would want. There ARE rumors of a JetBlue merger but I dont know about that...but the JFK routes are priceless.

But Yeah prices will go up but they need to...I mean when I was in Jr. High school my family bought tickets from Dallas to Puerto rico for like 299 dollars. The same route STILL can be flown for 299 dollars. Adjusted for inflation, the airlines are the ONLY industry pretty much that has not kept up. Can you get a brand new car for the same price you did 20 years ago? A house? Oreos? Furniture?..

Anyhoo...just trying to put some rumors to rest....

I strongly disagree on this tho... a ticket to see my SO is already 1700 usd, it was raised 200 bucks the last two months, I'd say that this is enough for now lol
