Ok, now I am about to loose it completely. Just when we thought that we have gotten this far alive - - - the envelope was opened! He is staying with his friends and for some God forsaken reason, his friend's wife opened up the envelope. Not just the one envelope, but all of them! He tried to call the embassy but they will not answer calls and will only respond to an email - in 5 days. So, I called the embassy and got this long drawn out voice message but gives no live person to talk to. What do I do? He is off for Bangkok tomorrow and will not be back in the UK until Tuesday and then he is supposed to fly here on Friday. Any help is appreciated.

I do believe I heard someone had to take an envelope back and get it resealed. Hope they can do that for you.

You have to take the envelope back to the embassy and have it re-sealed. Some embassies will charge a second interview fee to do it :o So he should be prepared in case they do. If the embassy doesn't return phone calls or emails in a timely manner, I would think he should physically go in if it's nearby. Otherwise you'll have to wait for an answer from them. :( Good luck!

Contact the consulate ASAP... You are not the first one to do this... the packet must be returned for re-sealing....

What email did you use? LondonNotary@state.gov and putting the subject as 'emergency appointment' would probably get more attention, but im not sure you have time for that, I'm not sure he will be able to get it all resealed in time for friday, especially if he is going to be away.

http://london.usembassy.gov/ukaddres.html , has he tried calling all of these numbers? if one puts him onto a person, i am sure they will transfer him.

Curiosity. My fiancee's (now wife) nephew, niece and some friends wanted to see what was inside - I guess they thought inside was candy or an out of this world alien or something fantastic - I had warned my fiancee about it and had told her that it basically contains papers that pertain to your visa - you don't need to see them - just carry them - I guess in a few years when they really do get a system working - one would not need to carry any paper with them - it would all be in the 'system' to be looked at and verified. Till then behave as if you are James Bond on a secret mission!

How do I go about that? Who does he contact? He flies to Bangkok tomorrow and won't be back until Tuesday and then has to fly here on Friday. Do you think we'll have it back in time.

I emailed the embassy and the email was immediately deleted. Argh

Phil then called the number and they said to email a request but you have to get an email confirmation number to attach before they will even accept the email.

I'm moving this to the UK forum. We've had quite a few members there who've opened the packet (mainly men, may I add! lol) and have rectified the problem....over to you, UK forum. :D
