Just out of interest, what makes people so sure that the protesters are more likely to be illegal immigrants than US citizens? I would have thought that was less than obvious. US citizens have every right to ask for changes in immigration law to allow for the legalization of those who are currently illegal. Whether their reasoning is sound or people think it 'rewards' bad behaviour is somewhat irrelevant they have the right to make their case in any way they choose.

Because the last one was populated by a majority of people that are illegal.

How do we know? Did they advertise their illegal status? You may be right but I just wondered how one could know by looking at them.

How do you know they are legal?

What is so wrong with enforcing employment verification and one person using one Social Security number?

That is what these "immigrants" are protesting and you know damned well why they don't want any law enforcement or a regulated border! Let's not play games here.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

There is nothing wrong with enforcing employment verification and one person using one Social Security number. However, my reading of the OP was that the protesters would like to see comprehensive immigration reform - in this instance I understand that to mean making those who are illegal legal. You see this as 'rewarding bad behaviour' - which it may be - however other people see this as a good way of resovling the problem of 12? million illegal immigrants currently in the US. You are entitled to your opinion of course, but so are those protesters who are US citizens.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Enforce first, resolve later - very simple.

Otherwise 20 years from now we will have to "resolve" another 40 million illegals.

Didn't you know? They all wear this:

That could happen of course and not everyone would see that as a bad thing. Still that would depend on a lot of factors, not least what exactly the immigration reform entailed.

Why the edit?

It was supposed to be a PM.

unless someone has a record of it, it didn't happen.

It happened. It's a record.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

why not worry about your own lives instead of what others are sending in a PM? it wasn't meant to be read by others. the mistake was corrected. get over it.

eta: if it was meant to be read by everyone then PMs would be PUBLIC!
