A religion other Muslim with multiple wives

Weren't these clowns LDS?

Not mormons. They broke off of the LDS religion and made their own. They are nothing at all like mormons. The women dress in these freaky home made dresses and hats. If you saw them you would think they are Amish.

I had a friend that was part of organizing the dances for single LDS members. She told me that at one time some of these polygamist male members came to the dance. I am assuming to attempt to recruit. All I can say is "OH HE!! NO!!

They can do what they want on their own property as long as its within the laws of the federal, state, and local governments. Polygamy is not legal. It is actually one of the questions on the petition for K1 because if you checked it, it would be grounds for denial of petition.

I'm not sure how prostitution is legal in some areas outside of Las Vegas though. Maybe there is no federal law for that?

Its legal in some of the rural counties in Nevada. The State has never outlawed it, but is prohibited by Nevada Constitution in counties in excess of 350,000 residents.

You see them along the way from Las Vegas to Reno if you have ever driven this remote hiway in western Nevada.

I see the polyligists almost every day where I live. They moved here for the construction jobs....women in their prarie dresses right out of Little House on the Prarie....their kids just glare at you as they have been taught to avoid 'outsiders'.

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.

I would think that since it is rare to let "newbies/outsiders" into this LDS group and each man is allowed more than one wife AND the teen boys who are of puberty have reportedly been banished, then aren't these members somehow distantly related and committing incest by marrying/bearing children?

What if you buy "shares" in a #######, similar to the way people buy raw milk?

It's illegal to buy or sell raw milk (that is, unpasteurized milk) in the US, but it's not

illegal to drink milk from your own cow. It's therefore not illegal for an individual

to buy a share in a cow, pay a fee to the farmer to provide feed and labor in caring

for the cow, and in return, get to drink the milk from their share of the cow.

Can a similar scheme be used as a legal workaround for prostitution?

I cannot believe this #### happens in a 1st world nation in 2008.. Where you can basically seal off a town and then claim freedom of religion.

the town is not being sealed off because they are practicing their religion - they have been doing that for more than a 100 years. The town is being sealed off because children have been raped and abused.

I am talking about these sort of 30 day religions which take over a town and basically build walls around it.

It's a town they start themselves. Ad the compound in Texas is on private property. People can do what they want on their own property, yah?

A muslim man can have 4 wives, but must treat each equally with money and time. I don't know too many men that can hang with that.

Jackie

Muslim men have no right in Islam to more than one wife. Although it is allowed, it is allowed under very limited circumstances which have to do with the welfare of women in need of protection due to loss of a male guardian, not the carnel pleasure of the men. Anything beyond that is a result of cultural traditions, not the tenets of the faith.

The Quran makes the limits of polygamy very clear, promises hellfire for exceeding the limit, and actually discourages plural marriage. The Prophet Muhammad had only one wife for more than 25 years, and only one of his wives was not either older, widowed or divorced. His children were with his first wife, who was at least 15 years older then he was. There is a verse in the Quran that deals with his struggle to handle multiple wives.

Islam is often associated with polgamy, but it is not the only Abrahamic faith that has a history of polygamy. There is nothing in the Bible or the Torah that commands monogamy.

Why do men get all the fun, where is the religion that allows women multiple husbands, sign me up for that one.

There is an ethnicity in China where the women basically have as many husbands as they want, but only one at a time. They own all the property and they put out a sign (a lantern?) when they are looking for a husband. Men live with their mothers when they aren't living with another woman. That would probably turn most women off.

I don't get the point of multiple wives but I love Big Love :) It seems too strange to me and I'm pretty open to everything ;)

Me too! I watched the entire first series in just a few nights. It was fascinating and I found myself rooting for them not to get caught. That second wife . . . She was a b*tch!

Is this the one on showtime or hbo about the bunny ranch brothel outside of vegas? I think I've seen that one. I remember an episode where a father took his son there and both had a "good time."

I just couldn't imagine being either the dad or son in that situation... awkward is an understatment.
