Apr. 4 - Palestinian fishermen catch and kill a giant sea turtle, thought to be a Leatherback, an endangered species.

The rare giant sea turtle caught on a beach near Gaza City was slaughtered and eaten by Palestinian fishermen who said its blood was an aphrodisiac, among other therapeutic qualities. A Reuters cameraman said the fishermen collected the giant turtle's blood and gave it to children suffering from trauma and adults with back problems.

This happens all over the world... try putting a camera-man on a Japanese fishing boat and the illegal poaching would amaze you.

As the video implies... To the impovrished Palestinians, the turtle is way too valuable to release and they did try to help children (even if it is a plecebo effect).

It is quite possible that they don't even know that this species is endangered. I can't imagine Palestineans spending their time as marine biologist and on National Geographic websites with the situation and other concerns happening.

Exactly.

For the OP -- yes, the NERVE of those hungry, besieged people -- using what they can for food, and trying to help their children as best they know how. SAVAGES. Why can't they just DIE or DISAPPEAR quietly, like they're supposed to.

I wouldn't go blaming the OP on this one... he never used any of his own words except the description... Blame Reuters for the story and its portrayal.

She should just enjoy a story for what it is and have a few laughs. I prescribe a dose of turtle blood to settle WoM's nerves. :)

I guess if your poor and Palestininian you have the right to pretty much kill anything you want.
