I just went to the USCIS.gov site to do more some research, and in the list of Filing Fees, the Petition for Alien Fiance is posted at $455, as of 7/30/2007... this is the K1, right???

all along I have seen $131 as the filing fee... I am now VERY confused!!!

Please, any help?

$455 is the correct fee for the petition.

$131 is the correct fee for the visa interview.

Both will need to be paid.

yes, the fee is $455.

you can also find their fee schedule here (if you are looking to determine other fees that you will likely encounter along the way):

Yes, the filing fee for the K1 is $455 dollars.

Then there are other expenses in between, the medical for example ranging from $180 to $400 dollars depending on country.

Then the $131 is paid at the actual interview.

Then once you get married you file for AOS (Green card, Work Authorization and Advanced Parole) which costs $1010.00.

It's an expensive journey but oh so worth it.

Check out the K1 Guides here at VJ, they will help to get you organized!!!

Best of luck! :)

$131 is the cost for the Visa itself, the $455 is the fee for the petition which allows your fiance to apply for the visa. Be prepared to fork out lots of $ during this process as there are lots of additional fees along the way.

The $131 is the fee for the interview. It is paid wheter or not a visa is issued.

I could be wrong but I read on a different forum that you do not actually need to file for Work Authorization and Advanced Parole because basically this is all set when you have your green card, no?

Or am I totally wrong on this part?

You don't need to file for Advance Parole or for the Work Authorization, but since the $1,010 fee for AOS includes filing these extra forms, you may as well go for it. Especially since filing AOS doesn't mean your Green Card will be issued in a timely fashion. There are several VJers who've had their AOS Applications languish in background checks for over a year, but relied on EAD an AP to work and travel prior to green card issuance.

EAD and AP are interim benefits to bridge the gap from AOS application filing and the granting of resident status and greencard issuance which could be 4-6 mos typical or more.

This is what I meant...they are included in the fee so why not file for them?? :)
