20 July 2006: Israeli Soldiers use civilians as Human Shields in Beit Hanun

B'Tselem's initial investigation indicates that, during an incursion by Israeli forces into Beit Hanun, in the northern Gaza Strip, on 17 July 2006, soldiers seized control of two buildings in the town and used residents as human shields.

After seizing control of the buildings, the soldiers held six residents, two of them minors, on the staircases of the two buildings, at the entrance to rooms in which the soldiers positioned themselves, for some twelve hours. During this time, there were intense exchanges of gunfire between the soldiers and armed Palestinians. The soldiers also demanded that one of the occupants walk in front of them during a search of all the apartments in one of the buildings, after which they released her. oh, and again.

Israelis soldiers were filmed using Sameh Amira, 24, as a human shield on February 25, during a week-long raid into the West Bank city of Nablus. Mr Amira was made to search homes in the city's casbah, or old city, during a search for wanted men and bomb-making laboratories. The casbah in the centre of the city was placed under curfew for two days and a Palestinian man was shot dead when he went onto the roof of his home.

Mr Amira's cousin, 15-year-old Amid Amira, told B'Tselem that soldiers also forced him to search three houses, making him enter rooms, empty cupboards and open windows.

An 11-year-old girl, Jihan Dadush, told B'Tselem that soldiers took her from her home three days later, on February 28, forcing her to open the door of a neighboring apartment and enter ahead of them. The soldiers then took her home, she said.

is it any wonder that so many kids get killed when terrorists resort to this type of cheap trick?

That's why they are called terrorists.

On the other hand.....if the terrorists put their own kids on rooftops, I have no problem blowing them up to smithereens.

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, what better way to nip Terrorist Jr in the bud?

That comment makes you a POS! But I really don't expect much from you guys anyway...

bfd. they kept prisoner with them while in a firefight. what did you want them to do, take them thru fire to the rear area?

and as for making someone walk in front of you, hello! that's the best way to keep them covered with weapons. it's downright idiotic to have a prisoner behind you.

the bfd is that doing what they did is in direct violation of a ruling by the israeli supreme court from 2005, in addition to being banned by international law. israelis apparently have a problem with it, because Israel suspends officer for using human shields. oh, and they were doing a whole lot more than walking in front of them. forcing a child to empy cupboards, open windows, open a door, and then taking her home is not walking a prisoner in front of you. it's using a child to clear rooms for you.
