This is just a shame. I hope the parents get put into jail the rest of their lives. Have a no contact for life for the parents, and take care of reproducing equiment on each person.

If you dont want a baby, Keep the Carrot out of the garden.

It is just sad and wrong..:(

A very disturbing story. Dear God, what is happening??!! The world gets more corrupted and corroded as the days go by.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Sadly not...just better reported.

It's so sick that anyone could harm an innocent in this way. I, too, hope they receive appropriate punishments.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

I look at news like this and shake my head. Especially at the thought that certain ignorant people actually believe stuff like this pretty much happened as frequently in the past and is simply a case of the media only 'now' choosing to report it. Apparently these "isolated incidents" have nothing to do with a change in society, values, respect for other humans etc.

Whenever I speak to someone much older than me they always talk about how often this stuff occurred in the 40's and 50's. NOT!

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

What about the recent revelations about the torture and abuse that children suffered in the Jersey children's home in the 60s, 70s and 80s? That's only recently come to light now because previously the victims' reports were ignored, and politicians and senior officials are believed to have covered it up.

What about the many women in the 17th and 18th centuries in Britain whose trial reports can be found at the Old Bailey's website? Women who, giving birth out of wedlock, would smother or drown their infants and claim they had died of natural causes. Victorian Britain was pretty nasty with the abandonment and abuse of small children.

In Roman times you have authors such as Suetonius commenting on the rumours of emperors sexually abusing young children.

Add to that a world population that is growing at an exponential rate (so that there are going to be more cases) and that world news is more easily covered thanks to the advent of the internet...it is not that there was a blackout on the media before, but that reporters have better tools and access.

None of what has happened before means that this report is any less tragic, however.

The thing is we are supposed to be this know-it-all civilized 2008 society and generation when in reality the human race and culture, in various places and communities, has a long long way to go. It is a given that atrocities occurred in the past but I do not believe they occurred anywhere nearly as frequently as they do now or for the same reasons. I don't believe there where nearly as many case of kids hurting or killing other kids for 'fun'. How many schools shootings, for example, occurred in the 40's, 50's.. Now the 60's, 70's 80's is a different story since society in the west seems to have gone down a very different path after the 60's.

I would dare the perpetrators of these crimes to go to other stricter countries which actually protect the 'rights' of good innocent people and try pull this #### off. I will give the morons of this incident $5k each and a free ticket to try pull it off in Singapore. Actually I'll make it $15k each if they make it back from a country like Saudi Arabia.

Absolutely, Alex & Rachel. If you look back at child abductions over the last century or two, the numbers haven't increased at all. It is just the media that enables us to hear about it more often.

The evil abilities of the human mind have not changed or worsened over the years - it was just better disguised 100 years ago and easier to hide.

Humans are capable of extreme evil in many cases - that ain't ever going to change, regardless of what century we are in.

The attitude of kids / teenagers has definitely changed. Heck it has changed greatly since I was a teenager.

How many single parents where there in the 40's, 50's and prior? How many cases where there in the 40's of single parents having 4 kids to 4 different partners? How many cases where there of kids torturing and killing other kids for fun? Or shooting up schools.

First of all the media, especially in the US, does not report half the #### that I would see on the news back home. On top of that the emphasis is quite different. There is a murder reported on the local news here pretty much every single day. To make matters worse murders are reported much like someone reading out the weather in a "oh well just another shooting" manner.

Yep. Good points. Very sad. It is one of the reasons I sometimes stay away from reading the headlines because they get me down. We'll never see a headline about two parents who love their child wonderfully...it's just not newsworthy.

The problem is - you don't really have any basis for substantiating that opinion outside of your own personal opinion, and what other people have told you.

People "much older than you" might tell you that this stuff never happened in the 40's and 50's, but surely they can only going off what the media at that time put out - just as you are relying on what the media puts out now to make your own conclusion.
