Singer Amy Winehouse has met officials at the US Embassy in London to discuss obtaining a visa.

Winehouse, who checked into rehab at the Capio Nightingale clinic in north London last month, was accompanied by her father Mitch and a nurse.

The 24-year-old is due to perform at the Grammy ceremony, where she is nominated for six awards, in Los Angeles on Sunday.

But her spokesman said "no decision" had been made about the appearance.

"The appointment at the US Embassy was made some time ago and was part of process for obtaining a visa," he said.

"Amy was accompanied by a nurse as the appointment was under supervision. She has not left rehab and remains under the care of the clinic."

'Healthier'

Winehouse was admitted to the Capio Nightingale clinic in north London on 24 January, days after a video emerged that apparently showed her smoking a crack pipe.

Attending the US Embassy, she looked healthier than in recent weeks, dressed in a white skirt and polka dot top and sporting her trademark beehive hairdo.

Her application for a visa will not be simple due to her drugs record - last October she was arrested and fined in Norway for possession of cannabis.

She is planning to appeal against the fine in a Norwegian court later this month.

Winehouse's Grammy nominations include record, album and song of the year.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if she had visa in hand within a week.

I wonder if the visa people will say "no, no, no"

Nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I heard her next project is to go to Jamaica, hang out in the Blue Mountains and channel Bob Marley. Thinking Jamaica is not a good place for someone fresh out of rehab.

give her a visa..she is up for a grammy

Grammies, isn't it? I think she is going to sweep the grammies.

has anyone seen photos of her from like 4-5yrs ago? she was almost normal looking

If she weren't so skinny and her hair wasn't in that bee hive doo, I think she is pretty. I love her voice and choice of music. But, I fear she'll just end up like Morrison or Cobain in the end, if she doesn't get off this track she is on.

I would think her drug use would render her ineligible for a visa.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.
