Hello I am new to this site since today. I have many questions to ask, but do not know where to start. Well anyway I am looking for a little bit of help, Since all this is very new to me. I noticed on here that there are different forms to get your fiance to the US. We both met online 4 months ago and fell in love. :) We planned to meet this summer, but I will be in school and airline tickets are quite expensive for a a college students budget. I prefered to meet the first way, but emotions are getting high and crazy. I wanted to know would it be easier for me to try to save money for my trip or just try to get him here throught this visa. We never met so even this seems hard. Any help or advice would be gladly appreciated. Signed Anxious, Excited and everything in the book. :)

In order to get a fiance visa you must meet in person in the two years prior to filing. There are exceptions but not having the money isn't one of them. You will need to find a way to meet and when you do remember to keep all of the evidence that you met. ie. airplane ticket stubs, hotel recepts, lots of pictures ect....

the other posters are correct... you MUST have met before filing for the k1 or k3 visa. I went to Morocco in Feb 2005... it is a beautiful country... my advice is to continue searching for airfare... when I went to Morocco, my airfare only cost $600 i think... that was the most wonderful 18 days of my life!

wishing ya'll the best!

Make sure you check out the Middle East/North Africa forum here. We have lots of people going through Morocco.

In addition to meeting in person being a requirement for getting a visa, it's also just makes good relationship sense. This board is full of tons of people who have met via the internet, and I'm willing to bet a lot of them can testify to how critical meeting in person is to determining how your relationship will work out. Plus, traveling to another country is FUN! I loved the time I spent in Egypt. And, it gave me the chance to meet his family and friends, and get to know him much better before I made the life long commitment to marry him.

Another thing to think about if you're a college student is sponsorship. Part of the visa process is signing a sponsorship form that certifies that you make a certain amount above the poverty line, so that you can support the immigrant and that he won't become a public charge. You can have a cosponsor, but thinking realisitically, how will you both live if he comes here while you're in college? K-1 visa people don't usually work for months after they've gotten here, so you'd have to support yourself and him while he was waiting for employment authorization.

When I met my husband, it was mad crazy love after the first few months. We were determined to be together, come hell or high water. But, reality had other plans. Since I had a few years of college left, I saved my money, visited Egypt 2 times and when I graduated and got a decent job, filed for the K-1 fiance visa. It was a long time to wait (met September 01, he arrived October 05), but it made it much easier when he got here.

Good luck on your visa journey! As the clique goes, it's a loooong strange trip :luv:

I agree with rahma - This is a money and time consuming process. Your fiance/e won't be able to work till they get their EAD or green card and it will cost you to file for their documents. You need to be prepared to help them transition to living in this country (with new wardrobes or at least winter clothing) - learning the language and trying to find a job after they get their EAD or Green card - And you will have wedding expenses! I would guess you need to have about $5,000 more to help them settle before they can contribute to the household - Yes! A lot of mac and cheese the first year! Think carefully about the first year of his/her life here before deciding to go for the visa. Good Luck

[...]We never met so even this seems hard. Any help or advice would be gladly appreciated.

Welcome to VJ Keisha! :D First thing you have to do is meet in person, for more than one reason. In order to get a K-1 visa, you have to of met. In your case, there's no getting around it. You should also meet just because I don't feel anyone can truly get to know someone else without spending time with them, face to face. I don't know how hard it would be for him to get a B2 visa, but I'm sure it isn't any easier. Morroco seems to be a tough consulate. Other members will surely fill you in on that. This thread will probably be moved too!

Anyway, good luck!
