I don't hate anyone. Also I am a she. The double post was an accident to begin with and I don't even know what Kwanzaa is.

don't mind VJ Troll.... he likes to live up to his name... ;)

Kwanzaa from wikipedia

Kwanzaa (or Kwaanza) is a week-long Pan-African festival celebrated primarily in the United States, honoring African American heritage.[1] It is observed from December 26 to January 1 each year.

Kwanzaa consists of seven days of celebration, featuring activities such as candle-lighting and pouring of libations, and culminating in a feast and gift giving.

Thanks for the info. No one around here celebrates it so I am naive to the other festivities of this time of year.

The only thing I don't like is when it's spelled 'X-mas'

me too

If I know someone is especially strongly Christian or Jewish I'd purposely say Merry Christmas or Happy Hannukah.

That gives me an idea. Let's make Christians and Jews wear badges on their coats so we know who they are and may greet them appropriately.

there you go... :thumbs::lol:

Oh and let's make them all live in quaint little villages where they may practice their faith as they see fit and not be harassed by us secularists. When they come out, they must wear the badges we give them :jest:

Christmas is annoying as hell. You have to hear crappy music for 2 months and cringe when you think about how much electricity is being wasted. It is a materialistic, consumerist holiday which puts many families in debt. However, you are told over and over again by ad agencies that no matter what you get someone, they deserve better.

I do like celebrating the winter solstice with a bag of goodies, though.

All you need is a modest house in a modest neighborhood

If I were Christian, I dunno how I'd feel about "x-mas" seeing as it goes back to almost the beginning of Christianity when the first letter in Christ was written by the Greek alphabet letter "chi" or χ. It wasn't originally meant to be derogatory, but it's kind of evolved that way. It was perfectly acceptable to write Christian as χian.

We don't celebrate Christmas at all, neither observe any type of religious holiday . The inlaws do, so we'll hop along for what promises to be a nice meal

I have no problem when folks say "Merry Christmas"; just don't expect me to say it back. People DO get bent out of shape when I tell them we don't "do Christmas", looking at me with the cutest pity look in their eyes , which I find quite amusing . From where I see it: my time, my business. And no, I don't get time off work.

I do find it interesting when some of the biggest, most expensive gifts can be bought by Christians.... hmmmm.

The celebration per se is not annoying to me at all. Now, the music.... you said 2 months? Try 3: Seattle started going "Christmasy" since freaking OCTOBER. I agree with the music part - it's cheesy as few things in life. Also agree with the monetary part of it. But then again, if someone goes and enjoys their Christmas shopping, music and all, good for them

and just to add...

I'm not saying in all cases...just saying....if gifts aren't a reason for the season, then why buy into the consumerism...

To me, it doesn't matter if you want to celebrate the 'true meaning' behind Christmas or just have a day off on 25th December and I don't really care what it's called either. It's a government declared holiday and everyone has the right to that day off regardless of what they do or don't believe, this whole, "well if you don't believe in 'Christmas' you shouldn't get a day off" is mindless.

I just wish we could squeeze a few more paid holidays into the calender, that would be awesome in my opinion :-)

The wife has a CD somewhere with this “alternative” Christmas song on it. It doesn’t sound untoward unless you listen to the suicidal lyrics, and at the end there’s a sound of a gun going off and a body falling into water. Its morbid, but I quite like it - and the gunshot part always comes out of the blue.

Still… nothing beats the UK Christmas number 1 a few years back – the Mad World song from Donnie Darko…

I wouldn’t mind Christmas music as much if it weren’t the same songs every-year. At least since I moved to the US I’m spared that Cliff Richard “Mistletoe and Wine” number. Unfortunately you have to go a long way indeed before you can get away from Mannheim Steamroller, or that Noddy Holder “So here it is Merry Christmas” song from the 70’s. That stuff is enough to make a person want to gnaw their own leg off.

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

To be honest- I am not much of a Christmas fan. Yes the presents, family and food is great but I find people during the XMas season are a pain. Most people get so worked up and stressed out about everything and are so pissy and grumpy. Shopping during this time of year is a nightmare- people pushing and shoving to get through the stores and malls and then getting impatient when they have to stand in line for more than 2 minutes. I just find what is supposed to be the season of love and giving is more like the season of being an azzhole.

The only thing I don't like is when it's spelled 'X-mas'

I did it twice in my post :)
