So I popped the Big Question on July 29th as originally planned... the details of how I popped it were changed last minute but it ended up even better... and she said yes with tears and she loves her ring and can't wait for us to be married.
Anyway,  I completed my K1 application but haven't submitted it yet since the plan is to try to get approval so we can get married either late August or early September 2018.

Here's the question... we have the Zumba cruise leaving out of Miami in April and then the 2018 Zumba Convention is the end of July.  Assuming the application is approved After April but before the Orlando Fl. convention end of July... the clock starts ticking once the K1 is approved or once she comes to the US... assuming Orlando end of July... we have 90 days from that date to get married?

1) There is a six month expiration date on the visa. Before the expiration date she has to enter the US.
2) The 90 days goes in once she uses the K-1 to enter the US. For example, I entered the US with my K-1 on July 29th. I had until October 27th to get married,  so exactly 90 days.

we are trying to plan our wedding for the end of August to the middle of September... just a sentimental time we are trying to plan for... with that in mind when would be the ideal time to submit our application?

Also...then she has to go back to Japan for work for a week on November...I was just told that will not be possible and that she will have to stay here, that we can't leave the country for 6 months after we are married... does this mean we can't take a honeymoon ?

If a K-1 visa holder leaves the country before he or she has gained advance parole (I-131), he or she won't be let back into the country, the AOS petition is considered abandoned and you will have to start all over again with a spousal visa,

She can leave the country any time, but she won't get back in unless you've obtained Advance Parole. Normally you'd apply for this when you apply for AOS (green card). Time can vary - in my case it was around 2.5 months after my application.

 

So assuming you are married in August and immediately apply for AOS she might have it by then, but it might be close. It would be unlikely to take 6 months however.

Do we have to be marries by a justice of the peace?...or can ee get married by anyone ordained?

 

Once we get married do ee file a separate application for her green card or is there something else to file/apply for?

The rules on marriage will depend on the state in which you get married.

 

In my state (North Carolina) we were able to obtain a marriage license from a local government office, while we waited (about 20 mins). I had a social security number (had a J1 visa in the USA 15 years earlier) but if I had not had that I could have signed something explaining that I did not have one as a recent immigrant.

 

We chose a licensed officiant for a secular ceremony (we are both atheists) but we could have had a religious one had we chosen.

 

After marriage you apply for AOS (adjustment of status). Follow the guides on this site.

Anyone else run into trouble with visiting the states from Canada? My fiancé was turned away despite showing ties and basically they told him he has to wait for the visa to go through. I travel up there as often as I can...about twice a month. They recently started stamping my passport so I'm not sure if I should get concerned? I always bring documentation of my ties to the US with me. We filed in June so have a lot of waiting ahead it seems

Bank statements, tax returns...etc. He would like to try again after NOA2 but not sure if it's a good idea
